What Are You Playing? - March

Virtual On Oratorio Tangram

I bought it a few years ago but didn't put more than about 10 minutes into it before my DC broke down, so it sat on my shelf unappreciated for years. Brought it over to a friend's after it was announced for XBLA and we put a few solid hours into it, basically leaving me wondering why on earth I had decided to neglect it for so long.

I also finally found one of those SFIV fightpads for the 360, so I've picked up VF5 again now that I have a controller that doesn't suck so much.

Conan 360 - Fuck I want to finish it but I don't want to restart just because of the damn glitch. Still didn't see if anyone had an answer to my question

Megaman ZX Advent DS - Much better than the first one, nearing the end but I came to another point where I don't know where to go so this one is on hold.

SF4 360 - Duh. Trying to amass some ranked wins and get better with different characters and learn to make the analog stick work for me (hint: you can't).

Guitar Hero 3 360 - Still trying to five star some of the songs on hard and beat Lou. I did it when I worked at Game Craze cuz I spent a whole day (slow day) trying in between customers. Can't seem to do it a second time. Also my guitar is fucked up and I desperately need a new one (anyone getting rid of one?)

Metroid Prime 3 Wii - Never got far when I owned it, but I promised my friend I'd play it through so I borrowed it from him. The game really is great, I just don't feel like playing it that often for some reason. Ussually play in small doses, but what a great game it is.

Been seriously contemplating trying Grandia 3 for the first time.

Rainbow Six Vegas (Xbox 360)
Still (slowly) ranking up in this one.

I got into this one a little late because I was out of the country for a little bit, but it's a blast. Expert difficulty has some ridiculous and unfair moments, but is so much fun (with three other people, of course).

Do you play online at all?

I used to play UT99 non-stop... really didn't put much time into UT3, steam finally finished downloading it, jumped onto a pub deathmatch server and took first out of about ten guys.

I forgot the multiplayer non-SF4 stuff: I've been playing Unreal Tournament 3 and Rock Band lately, in that area.

The real miracle of Unreal Tournament 2004 and Unreal Tournament 3 is that they do a pretty good job of so many different things. That said, Quake 3 will always have the maps, weapons, and movement to make it the better straight-up DM game.

Retro Game Challenge. I'm glad everyone else liked it, but there's no way I'm finishing the final challenge of beating every game.

That's my entire gaming right now, although Rondo of Swords showed up in the mail today. Thankfully there are two games console coming out this week, so I finally have a reason to fire them up again.

So Bullet Witch is worth playing? I have the game and went through the first level, but it didn't really grab me. Does it improve as you go?

The first area is pretty dumb and strict in the way it makes you take down barriers. Much of the game is a bit more open-ended than that, though you'll get the occasional corridor area.

It's okay. You get more powers as you go, plus the cheap DLC missions are pretty fun. The boss fights are mostly awful though, especially the final one.

My 360 RRODed on the weekend, so I'm working on my backlog. I really would rather be playing Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts and Gears 2, but evidently that is not meant to be.

Anyway, I'm working on the following PS2 games:

Yakuza: I never actually finished this. I restarted it because I left it alone for so long that I couldn't remember any of the plot, and it is still awesome fun. I have Yakuza 2 to play after I finish this up, too!

Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal: I ignored this for quite a while because I went through all the Jak games and the first two R&C games in one burst when I got them all, leaving me really burnt out on this style of platforming. Fantastic game.

Bully: I stopped playing this because it froze after I had played for about two hours, losing all my progress. I'm going to save early and save often as I delve back into this excellent but buggy (and ugly!) game.

Plus the usual PC stalwarts:

Team Fortress 2: The game that keeps on giving. In this case, the recent Scout update has given me a lot of kills as a Pyro.

Left 4 Dead: Valve really needs to do something about people ragequitting two maps through a five map versus game. I've taken to being a white knight and joining in-progress games that have had people leave. Everyone loves me for it, but I'm getting really sick of No Mercy's finale. Why the hell don't more people play Blood Harvest? Other than that, it's excellent.

Unreal Tournament 3: The recent release of the Titan Pack has prompted me to reinstall this. It was fun annihilating all the noobs on the weekend but I feel extremely outclassed by people who are obviously regulars. I guess I need to practice more.

Gears of War: My 360 died just as I was craving a Gears fix. Good thing I'm enough of a Gears whore to own the PC version. There's actually some rather interesting dialogue in the PC exclusive section that helps alleviate the incoherence of the story in Gears 2. Though not by much.
