The folks over at Deadline are
on fire this week! They just told us about the disposition of TERMINATOR rights (
HERE) & now they have word on what's going down with the next SUPERMAN film.
Our insiders say that the brains behind rebooted Batman has been asked to play a "godfather" role and ensure The Man Of Steel gets off the ground after a 3 1/2-year hiatus.
Referring to Nolan's forthcoming Warner title INCEPTION:
While Nolan completes that Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer for a July 16th release, he's also hatched an idea for Warner Bros' third Batman installment. Now his brother and frequent collaborator Jonah Nolan, and David Goyer who co-wrote Batman Begins and penned the story for The Dark Knight, are off scripting it.
[EDIT]
As one of our insiders reassures: “It would definitely not be a followup to Superman Returns."
...say Mike Fleming and Nikki Finke in an interesting article
HERE.
My first instinct was that I hope poor Christopher Nolan doesn't become the "go to" person for these kind of adaptations. At the same time, when I think about the matter very carefully, Nolan meets nearly ever criteria I have in terms of the sensibilities I'd like to see brought to the table for a SUPERMAN project - I think he'd be a magnificent shepherd as such.
Personally, I'd love to see a bit of DARK KNIGHT's gritty maturity injected into SUPERMAN, but I'd also hate to see such an approach become a predictable formula.
