I'm glad I didn't back it because apparently paying a PS+ subscription was already supporting the developers.
And yeah, I back games on kickstarter because I know it's basically buying the game. I didn't give Inafune money because I want to see the smiles on his fat kid's faces. I paid him because I want to play his game. If I had backed the MK kickstarter and found out later that Sony was also supporting their efforts by putting them on PS+, I definitely would have wondered what the point was.

You can pay for it after it comes out.

Hedging my bets that the lowest tier of support that gets you a copy of the game will be cheaper than when it goes on sale retail. Worked out okay for Broken Age.

If I ever open a casino, George is the first guy I'm inviting to play.

I'd be the guy playing penny slots while slurping down free drinks.

It doesn't quite work like that.

Ok, to quit with the silly analogy: I've backed a grand total of 2 video games on Kickstarter. Broken Age and Mighty No. 9. Games that, barring an anti-miracle, were guaranteed to be funded. Games that, when released, are going to cost AT LEAST at the value of the smallest tier of support that gets you the game. Most likely more. Happened with Broken Age. I gave Inafune 15 bucks for a game he was guaranteed to make. If he sells it for 15, parity! If he sells it for more, which can easily happen, I come out ahead! Then there's that tertiary thing where I helped make the game happen. A distant third.

I beat all the "recruit" missions in Mercenary Kings last night.
It's a lot better game than I was expecting. The farming for materials still gets in the way too much. And the environments get pretty repetitive since you go through the same levels so many times.

The first 15-30 minutes are really bad, but then the game turns out better than complete shit, so then you don't hate it as much.
I think it's a bad game that ends up being kind of fun. It feels just like a game that does all sorts of shit only because it was promised on a kickstarter page. So many of the weird systems are completely unnecessary and add nothing of value to the game.
It seems to be coded really badly also. Long loads, game just freezes sometimes then shows you getting hit a second later, crashed on me once. It needs a patch pretty badly.

Yeah, you're right about everything. People were like "This is Contra meets Borderlands!" It's more like Contra meets Monster Hunter, actually. But it IS bad. Who thought it was a good idea to have the GoW reload mechanic in a fast-paced 2D action game? And what about that really weird, super awful delay when you jump? I guess they were trying to recreate Monster Hunter's peculiar brand of Jankanese; broken but functional in a way that makes it fun. But this isn't. I've also had it crash for me a couple of times on the PS4 version, always when I'm trying to capture the Steel Soldier.
