States are REALLY QUICK to disallow plates. You'd be surprised at some of the plates that are rejected.

The abbreviation for Kawasaki on my DMV registration slip is KAWK and I was considering applying for a plate with something inappropriate like LIL KAWK (er, it's a small bike) just to see if DMV would approve...and if they disapproved, on what basis.
I saw a middle aged man the other day in a convertible BMW with the plate "TEABAG1."
