Yeah, I get paid for a lot of my writing gigs via PayPal and they always take a small percentage. It sucks, but they're a business like any other.
So they take it no matter what? Fuckers. I could have sworn back in the day it was only for certain types of transactions (like credit cards).
If you set up for it to take directly from your bank account they charge you less now.
I'm not sure if it's no charge but it's definitely less.
They changed it a few years ago. There was a standard account that wouldn't accept CC and the premium where it does, and they take a cut. The dumped that basic account and made every account accept CC's. It's weak since ebay owns them, they stick their hands into your pocket 3 times for every transaction (listing fees, final fee that includes the shipping cost too, paypal fee).Quote:

That's almost true. There is a charge if the money is taken from a credit card, even if it is a gift. That's only fair, since the credit card company undoubtedly charges PayPal a fee, like it would any other merchant.
What you need to do to avoid fees is first click the "Personal" tab on the screen where you enter the recipient's e-mail address. As long as you are transferring the money out of your PayPal balance or from your bank account, you can use any of the personal reasons (gift, living expense, etc.). However, if the money is taken from a credit card or out of PayPal Buyer Credit (which is a line of credit from a third-party bank), you will be assessed a fee.
