Besides Conan, Robert E. Howard also created other fantasy characters, such as King Kull and......Solomon Kane.
Michael J. Bassett, who directed the poorly written but well-photographed WW2 horror film Deathwatch and the moody thriller Wilderness (which featured some nasty dogs), is directing.
Remember that Hugh Jackman travesty Van Helsing? That character was basically Solomon Kane with his guts ripped out. James Purefoy seems like the perfect fit as Puritan swordsman Kane, who is tasked with ridding the land of demonic evil to atone for his past sins. Pete Postlethwaite and Max Van Sydow also star.
It's already been shown at a few festivals. Early reviews seem to be mixed, but it's nice to see Kane get some silver screen recognition. The character might seem derivative, but remember that Howard created Kane in the late 1920s.
Anyways, one to keep an eye on, but sadly, there's currently no US distributor. It releases in France on 23 Dec.
