I actually never owned a SNES growing up, so the first time I played Super Metroid was just a couple years ago when it came out on the Virtual Console. Even more than a decade after its original release, I was still pretty blown away by it, and I can easily see it earning the top spot on this list.

It is a little strange just how much this list is dominated by games from the late 80s/90s. I'm also a little surprised to not see more Sega titles on the list. A couple games I wish had made it are Skies of Arcadia, Zelda OoT (thats right, I said it), Metroid Prime, and either Warcraft II or Starcraft. Not saying those are necessarily the best games, but they're certainly some of my own personal favorites. At least JGR made it.

kinda, but not really. considering the age of most of us.

I seriously can not imagine owning or having access to a SNES back in 1994 and not playing Super Metroid. Unfathomable.
