My grandfather picked cotton, cooked in the navy, and worked in factory, side by side to African American men his whole life. But again he worked with, drank with, went to weddings and funerals with a people he generally respected and felt on a same level with, all because his first memories were cutting his hands on thorny leaves next to other boys his age.



Oh yeah... and his father also bootlegged liquor with black men. There's a great story about a naked black man in an ice cold 50 gal tub of beer pretending to be bathing when the cops rolled in that I'll have to save for another day.

To me, true racists are kind of like religious people.
