I have really sensitive skin. Moisturizers can actually irritate it. If your dandruff / dry scalp is that bad your doctor can prescribe you medicated solutions to get rid of it. Cost me about 20 bucks for a 3 month supply (so it was relatively cheap). If you're not going to get all hippie with your hair like Josh (it might work, so much of the shit we buy is marketed bullshit. IMO worth a shot) try THIS shit.
It WILL NOT get rid of it. Only the doctor shit will. But out of the stuff I've tried (and it was a different shampoo every fucking time I went to the drugstore) this doesn't irritate my scalp in the slightest. You might be different - you just have to shop around. The trick is to find something that doesn't make it worse, and get the doctors shit to get rid of it altogether. Then you're set. Sometimes you're SOL, too. I am every time I travel. I took a road trip along the American south in to Florida and didn't bring any toiletries with me so I had to buy whatever the shitty gas stations had. Started getting irritated again.
In the winter your furnace will affect it. Get a humidifier for your bedroom and set that shit to full during the night (this also works to reduce itchy skin to pretty much none during the winter) and don't take scalding hot showers. You don't have to go luke warm or cold or anything weird. Just as warm as you can handle it. Blow drying can cause it to dry if you do it a lot (like every morning). But I've seen your pictures - doesn't look like you're going for a lot of lift in your doo so you should be fine. Also salt water like swimming in the ocean, in my experience, worked really well to get rid of it when I was at my parents condo in Florida at the end of my road trip.
Lastly is diet. Eat salty, greasy food and it will hurt your skin.
I was going to say something about diet, but I couldn't figure out how to do it without sounding like a jerk.
Also: I HIGHLY recommend ditching the shampoo. Gotta get through the first couple weeks, then you're set for life.
I'm just nearing the last drops of a $2 bottle of Suave ocean scent shampoo I purchased over 2 years ago.
Used to have dandruff in junior-high when I didn't know how to wash my hair. Used to suds it up like they show you on the television commercials. And then you have to use conditioner to make the hair soft and manageable again.
At some point a stylist told me I was using too much shampoo and said to only use a pea-sized drop. For a long time I was still hung up on what TV had taught me and thought it was necessary to lather the hair all up in suds or else u nasty.
One pea-sized drop is usually enough. Massage that shit down to your scalp. You should be able to learn to feel when your hair is clean but still a little oily.
I know I'm a broken record here, but you can do the same thing with hot water...
Loping your scalp off with a machete cures dandruf, so I've heard. Try that.
Try Nizoral shampoo. T-Gel doesn't work at all.
I tried the Josh method for the weekend. I just couldn't hack it. By day three, my hair felt like greasy shit.
