Really, it's a much better game than the GTAs, and being open world isn't really why. It's not the type of game you cause chaos in - it's the type you ride around and explore and hunt and help people out in.

I'm glad you mentioned Mafia. So you weren't completely wrong.

This is an insane month. I have four of these, have played one more, and want to play two more. There have been entire summers that couldn't say that. However, this is going to a month where a Wii game actually deserves to win, but the hive mind is going to vote for the best domestic 360 game instead.

I don't remember Mafia even being a sandbox game. It was like GTA in that it had on-foot and in vehicle stuff but it wasn't really open-ended in design.

I haven't played enough of these to vote but I doubt anything's going to be as good as Galaxy 2.

Red Dead is probably the only thing that comes close, but either way kind of a crappy month.

Are you fucking high? Split/Second is a great new type of racing, Blur is an AWESOME kart racer, RDR is a fantastic openworld ROUND UP PARDNER game, SMG2 is more of SMG which is not a bad thing. 3D Dot Game Heroes is good until you get tired of nostalgia.

Anyway I actually agree with Yoshi today. SMG2 deserves to win, but TNL will vote for RDR.

Every month this year so far has been jam packed with interesting games, and May was no exception. I can't recall the last time there was a year with so much stuff in the first half. I don't know if 2010 will go down as one of gaming's best years in terms of its top 10 or anything but in terms of quantity of good games in total, I think it might end up being the biggest year ever.

RDR is awesome, and the only game I played thats on the list this month. Easily my GoTM.

I don't give a shit about any type of racing. So what that leaves me with is the two games I mentioned. Not sure what 3D dot game heroes is, but I'm already genuinely tired of Nostalgia so you've made my interest peak at 0. Ah, it's PS3 is why, I don't really pay attention to PS3.
