I don't know nearly enough about binaural beats and brainwave entrainment to stick up for the science behind them. I have no idea if this stuff "works", my guess is as uninformed as anybody's, but I do agree and believe that sound can be incredibly powerful. It can relax us and put us to sleep, evoke any number of emotions, get our adrenaline pumping, etc.. I believe that hypnotic suggestion can be effective, we've seen sound used as a crowd control weapon, we know that very low frequencies can trigger things like earthquakes and volcanos. A baby doesn't need to understand what you're saying to be comforted by soft, gentle tones. The baby doesn't consciously process that information. I guess everything can be broken down into waves and what we perceive as sound is just a small selection of those -- that shit definitely affects us, right?
I am intrigued by the more "alchemical" soundscapes which use very specific frequencies and patterns. I am sure that a lot of them are bullshit, but that doesn't necessarily mean the concept is.
