The 3rd Birthday

I thought there was already a thread for this, but I couldn't find it. Maybe I am just remembering discussion in the PSP thread. Anyway, a new Parasite Eve game is coming to the PSP. Given that this horror series was born back in the PS1 days when Square actually made good games in nontraditional genres (see: Einhander and Tobal 2), this is likely good news.

Why does anyone think that portable success and console desire/success are highly correlated?

This should just go straight to console. Parasite Eve as more fun than I ever thought it would be and it's second was alright. If this came to the 360 I'd definitely pick up a copy.

I assume (read: hope) he's just talking about testing to see if there is still interest in the Parasite Eve brand. Which is kind of weird, considering they don't even have the copyright anymore and slapped on an art-house movie sounding title that obscurely references the fact that its a sequel to anything. For the record I kind of like the name, but can't see it pulling in a lot of the uninitiated.

But yeah, this looks really, really good. First PE was pretty much a classic, second one appeared to be vomit, and now out of nowhere this looks awesome.

The first game was based on a novel/movie very loosely. Just the name and basic plot really, but I guess Square doesn't have the right to use the name anymore.

Ugh, I love the PSP but why would you take a series with a perfectly interesting command-based battle system and turn it into an action shooter if you're going to put it on this system? Luckily it looks like it's like Resistance Retribution and you've just got to aim in the general vicinity.

Looks good aside from that and the School Science Film narrator voiceover.

I loved the first game and liked the second. I'm wary of the third, though. The video looks nice but then I remember how awful PSP controls are for 3d action games. Like Bacon was saying, it's not the best genre fit here.

Totally agree. That is why I am concerned with them using this as a measuring stick for a potential PS3 version. I'd buy the latter in a heartbeat, but I'm not likely to pay anything over budget price for the PSP one, unless it supports the DS3 connectivity.

This looks awful, it looks like a bad last gen third person shooter with a geist type mechanic. I really liked the first game, never played the second and have wanted a new one for like a decade but this just looks like trash. The psp is the wrong platform for this, and if the name didn't tell you it's related to PE I would have guessed at a new silent hill or something. Nothing about this resembles PE in the slightest, this shit is making me hate the psps continued existence. You can't make well playing shooters or damn near anything that requires the movement of a camera on it.
