It's ironic that "Monster World" pops up in the intro text, this is the kind of thing everyone has wanted Westone to do for years. The main criticism of Monster Tale seems to be backtracking and the tedium of feeding/grinding Chomp, as long as it remains this charming I don't see that being much of a problem.

I keep reading this as "Monster Tele" and getting all excited.

Yeah, the term "monster world" isn't terribly creative and even a bit generic sounding but I don't think it was a coincidence that it showed up in the intro. I don't see this game as having any more back tracking than any other game of this type. I played some more last night and so far so good.

Monster Tale is better, though.

This is such a cool little game, i like it a lot more than Henry Hatsworth, and i liked Henry Hatsworth a lot! I love the different monster forms. It really gives you something more to do than find the next checkpoint.
The backtracking is a little ridiculous, but most of the monsters only take a hit or three, and you can avoid a lot of the ones that take more.
The artwork is derivative (so far i've encountered a character that looks like Princess Peach and one that looks like Sora from Kingdom Hearts), and pretty unappealing, but the sprite animation is divine.

Yeah, Ellie's portrait art looks straight out of a "How to Draw Manga" book, where the eyes feel a little too off for their own good. The sprites though? AMAZING!

I've had a good deal of fun playing. Saves are pretty easy to get to, the combat stuff is fun, the pet raising moreso. I'll be sad when it's all over (unless there's some New Game + so I can keep leveling Chomp up).

It most definitely is, games in this genre pop up so infrequently that they deserve all the love they can get :D .

I really don't mind the backtracking, it's a great little game world to soak up (love the monster night club). I just can't tell if it's lazy design or a product of publisher ultimatum ( your title needs so and so hours of gameplay for release).

Someone finish playing this and sell it to me.

I've enjoyed this more than I expected to. Aside from the generic portrait art and meh voice work, this is a really well-made game. I'm surprised Majesco released it at $30, but it seems to be selling well. Amazon's nearly out of copies even tat that price.

I've seen this in three different Targets at the clearance price of $4.98. You can't not buy it if you can find it for that price. I bought it. I couldn't not.
