That's very possible, but they created stuff I don't like, with the exception of Shenmue and JGR. On the other hand, the Genesis had loads of Sega racing ports, Panzer Dragoon, Virtua Cop, House of the Dead, etc. I guess the message is that I like Sega arcade games better than the stuff most of their home teams make. The Saturn had huge mistakes too, the obvious ones being no Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, 2D Sonic, etc. But the DC didn't fix any of those either.

I never considered great new IPs instead of crowbarring old 2D games into 3D digs to exploit a name to be a "huge mistake." Sega isn't Nintendo. That's not what they do. They crank out countless games that are immediately eye-catching and fun, and then move on to the next thing. That's what makes them the greatest arcade developer of all time.

Saturn had a lot of not-so-great ports of Sega's always amazing arcade output, where DC managed to be perhaps the best arcade-at-home system ever, or at least since Neo Geo. It was during that time that Sega restructured and blurred the lines between arcade and console divisions and both did equally amazing stuff.

You had great arcade stuff like Crazy Taxi, House of the Dead 2, Virtual On 2, Virtua Tennis, etc, but then you also had great console games growing out of the arcade legacy like Jet Grind Radio, Shenmue, Rez, Space Channel 5, etc. It just seemed like Sega had really figured out how to play to their strengths with the Dreamcast. I wouldn't trade any of their games for a shitty Streets of Rage or Golden Axe or whatever.

Seriously, the DC was out of control at the time. It had some amazing fighting games that were just perfect starting off with MvC and better than arcade SoulCalibur at launch.

And if Sega would have done that, instead of using the DC 2D like Capcom did, then that would have shown just how bad they had become.

Your list of DC arcade games just cements why I didn't care for the lineup. I love HotD, but it's a sequel to a series also on Saturn. Crazy Taxi, Virtua Tennis, and Virtual On don't do much for me. Neither do Rez or SC5.

Dynamite Deka 2 is probably better than whatever Streets of Rage 4 would have been.

Should have gotten a Slashout port, though. That's as close to a new Golden Axe as Sega got that gen.

I should have mentioned Headhunter too. I imported the Euro version of that and enjoyed it. However, that raises another sad issue. I had to import two of my probably four favorite English Sega games for the DC.

Probably missing a few on both platforms.

I kinda get the impression that Sega left more of their arcade games without home releases during the Dreamcast era, but at the same time, the Dreamcast ports are relatively uncompromised whereas most of the Saturn ports of the bigger games are serious steps down. Some of these are okay (Virtua Fighter 2), but others (Virtual On, The House of the Dead) I wouldn't want to touch. The only Dreamcast port that falters significantly, as far as I can tell, is Sega Rally 2, and even that is far closer to the original than Saturn Sega Rally.

The games themselves, though? I put VF3 over VF2, HotD2 over HotD, VOOT miles over VO, and I love Crazy Taxi and Cosmic Smash. I think I'd have to go with the DC-ported games.
