FUCK. I want to strangle Nintendo's hardware designers. It just went from day one to either never or a time where there is nothing else to buy and I get bored and do something stupid. The latter is why I own a Wii.
edit: I guess I just need to keep reminding myself of my own rule: If it's not a side/overhead scroller, a racing game, or a rail shooter, it's going to suck on the 3DS.
Now, now. You haven't played it yet. At least give it a chance before you convince yourself that you hate it.
You're kidding, right? Gyroscope controls for a camera in a glasses free 3D game where moving your head or the system throws off the effect? I haven't tried eating shit either, but I know I don't want to.
I'm sure they'll figure out a way to make it work. And if not you can always turn off the 3D just this once and, you know, enjoy the game part.
Um, no. I absolutely would not have bought a 3DS if not for the 3D. The effect hides the fact that the thing produces ugly ass, outdated graphics. That illusion is gone when you turn it off. Add to that the ridiculous omission of a second analog, and it's a nonstarter. I don't like Nintendo's games enough to make any compromises to play them. And this isn't even an in house title. Third parties need to get on this so that they can bail Nintendo's garbage out a la the NES, SNES, and GBA.
Yes, we need more third third party goodness on this machine. Nintendo, however, does not. They've proven that for the past decade or so. They'll keep on turning profits whether Metal Gear shows up or not. The consoles you referenced were certainly made more appealing the mainstream gamer by their inclusion (I would add the DS as well; lots of third party fun to be had), but Nintendo has never needed a "bailing out." They fine tuned the art of printing money a long, long time ago.
Your SNES reference is especially dubious.
For the 8,000th time, I don't care if Nintendo makes money. In fact, I'd love for them to go belly up and have to go third party to reduce the number of systems I need to play the third party games I want. The NES was all about Konami. The SNES was all about Capcom and Konami. So was the GBA.
Konami and Capcom had success on those consoles. And deservedly so--they put out some excellent games. That doesn't mean those consoles were "all about them." Do you really think Super Castlevania IV was more of a system-mover than Super Mario World? Be honest with yourself here.
I'm talking about myself and only myself. I would never have owned a SNES if not for Castlevania IV and Contra III. And I still didn't bother to get one until way late, as I just played my friends' and bought more Sega games.
