ok. It's a bad stylistic choice that led to bad art. But, hey, at least it'll match Vanillaware gameplay this time!

The portraits are purposely attempting to look similar to fighters, brawlers and similar artwork from the 90s (without being overly referential, like most of the current retro gaming trend). Did it bother you when those earlier works didn't have pin-point anatomic accuracy? The over-reaction to the art in this game from some people seems cynical and contradictory.
It's not similar. Everything else you posted actually has depth. For example, Haohmaru's katana isn't oversized all the way back to its handle like her legs are. Only the end is emphasized. I would have no problem if her boots were like that.
People are wrong to compare it to the extremely foreshortened fighter portraits.
People are right to find it provocative on its own merits.
I'm having a hard time believing people are defending the Amazon picture. Yoshi's completely right about it. No matter how you look at it, that head is the wrong size for that body. The perspective is totally screwed and, instead of looking stylized (like the Witch, Elf, and Mage) it's just wrong.

Regardless of the portrait art, the game still looks fun.
That "emphasis" is exactly what I mean. The shape of the blade isn't realistic, but it's stylized, or hyper-realistic, just like the Amazon girl.
Actually, the witch/sorceress should be the most 'offensive,' because her chest and butt are almost facing the same direction. But that was practically the norm with sprite/2D art, and anatomic liberties weren't objectionable for most gamers back then.

I dunno, I'm seeing a good 90 degree angle between butt and boobs, plus her stance clearly shows a gradual twisting of the torso. Yeah, it's still ridiculous, but much more acceptably so.

I'll say.
I mean, that's not just perspective, she really is holding that staff between her asscheeks, right?
Is that for a spell?
