Pretty much agree with you...the remake did have a few stretches that were actually kinda boring.
Plus, tree rape is in, but in this case it was far less sexualized and "rapey" than in the original. I actually mean this in a good way.

Saw this last night. Thought it was a bad movie, but I still enjoyed myself. I loved all of the practical effects and it had me laughing a lot.
I don't know if I'm just desensitized to this stuff, but I thought it was cheesy and not scary at all.
Not sure if I'm desensitized either...I love horror movies, but I can't think of the last one that I thought was legit scary. The ED remake sure wasn't.
A Hollywood remake of a classic beloved horror movie turned out mediocre? I don't believe it! I'm sure the next one will be worth paying for though.
This is on Bluray now. Too much gross stuff (for me) and not enough of the creepy stuff (what's there is really good though) but I'd still say it's worth watching.
And regardless of what you think of the rest of the movie, the ending is pretty fucking great.
I also just watched the blu ray. I felt the same.
Anyone know if the Ash cameo after the credits was the same as the theatre? This just shows his face in the dark, turn his head and say groovy. You can see the scar on his face too. I want that movie now please.
Edit to spoiler. Yup it is.
I liked it too. It does enough to make it it's own movie while acknowledging the source material. I really liked the direction and the great FX work. While the reasoning for everyone to be at the cabin was awkward, I like how it edged closer to madness as it went on. They really played up the dumb mother fucker should not be doing that cliche to wake the evil (that guy did some serious work to read the incantation with all the warnings everywhere), but I think it did more right than wrong so I don't mind it.
The director of this remake has stated that Raimi is directing Army of Darkness 2. I can't imagine this turning out well.
It won't turn out well. It will turn out AMAZING!
I hear tell that it's supposed to lead into the next Evil Dead remake movie. Like, canonnically.
Somehow.
