I tried using Blogspot originally and found it impossible to theme for. Ended up with Wordpress, which may be overkill for what you want. Wordpress is super flexible and awesome, but to get the most out of it you need to do your own install on your own webspace. Tumblr sounds like a good fit for your project.
As for the writing, just focus on what you absolutely love, write the things you absolutely believe, and emphasize the things that aren't being said elsewhere. People like pictures, too.
I mean, it's just going to be song: caption. No more than a few paragraphs. I can talk about these guys forever...it's gonna be interesting trying to find a balance between being informative and being personal. I'll work on it. I'm way stoked about it, been posting a song of the day on facebook for like 9 months...I really spend a lot of my free time just listening to music and wanting to share.

I have a blog for my artwork. I use wordpress and it works fine for me. You can make your blog be as simple as something on tumblr, but you have the option to make it as advanced as you'd like if you decide to do more with it in the future. WP also has pretty nice stat tracking features so you can see how few people actually look at the content you create.
