SNES is the better version but having said that, it needed an arcade release to do it justice. Lots of advanced game concepts but the aesthetics couldn't keep up.

Being from Namco doesn't that make it some kind of ancient ancestor of Soul Blade?
I'm completely baffled that so many people have a problem with ASL1. In the 90s, I used to equip the HG Gun, hold the shot button down with tape, and go outside to eat while the character racked up kills and scored enough points to earn all the weapons.
Find a hill or incline that offers a cover while your health regenerates, and you can beat the game on one credit-- even on Hyper difficulty. It also helps to earn the extra shields.
It was developed by Visual Concepts with game system direction by James Goddard, originally from Capcom USA. Blame him for Dee Jay.

Astal was really slow with weird gameplay. It looked good but it definitely didn't feel like a great platformer. It was just ok.
Still waiting for my copy of Astal to get here from Ebay...and in the mean time I'm really going all out with these retro games. I pulled my old "toaster" style NES out of storage the other day, wanting to play some Duck Tales, and of course it didn't work...
So, I've been scouring Ebay for a replacement NES...and looking into some NES games. Maniac Mansion looks like it might be good to my motion sickness, but I've never played that one...Darkwing Duck is also on my watch list because the videos make it look like a Mega Man clone, and I loved the T.V. show as a kid.
What are the pros and cons of getting a Top Loading NES? Is it even safe to bid on any "toaster" style NES systems? Or, does that style of NES just keep crapping the bed? I'm trying to decide which style of system to go with, because the Top Loading NES systems seem to be hovering around $100..and that seems a bit steep to me, for an NES.
Don't get a top loader unless you plan on either AV modding it or playing in RF, since it does not have AV jacks like the toaster.
