Thanks for the advice. I'll probably try changing the 72 pin connector then, before plopping down the cash for a top loader. I don't like the idea of not having AV outputs either.
In other news, I finally got the issue resolved with the guy who sold me the Genesis on EBAY. He sent me a replacement 6 button controller, and a couple extra, random, games. He gave me Flashback and Ecco the Dolphin, which is pretty cool, because I wanted to check out Flashback anyways...and I vaguely remember trying Ecco the Dolphin as a kid, on my friends Genesis.
Yeah, get the replacement connector, it's a cheap, easy fix and will fix 90% of all NES problems. You may want to read up on disabling the lockout chip if you are feeling adventurous. If the NES still doesn't work hit me up, ive got a parts NES and can probably fix it.
The top loader is cool if you feel like throwing money away. I picked one up a few months ago since it's so small, but the RF out is awful, and it's my understanding that the standard AV mod sucks as well. You can build your own video circuit using parts from a toaster model to get clean video, but at the end of the day you've just spent $100 on a top loader just to mod it to make it look as good as an old toaster model.
Obviously, I didn't take my own advice, I love my top loader. :D
You don't even need the replacement connector if you're willing to spend a little time unbending the pins. I did it to my NES about eight years ago and haven't had a cartridge reading problem since.
I always just wiggle the cart and pull it all the way forward once it's locked down.
That seems to prevent most of the flashing screen problems.
plus one for Lagoon graphics even for the day were not great but the story and music rock.
Just got a copy of Joe and Mac, for the SNES, in the mail today. This was one of my favorite games when I was about 10 years old. Somewhere along the line, I sold it for whatever reason, so I haven't played it in over a decade. I can't wait to fire it up tonight and be completely disappointed by it; nostalgia can be a bitch sometimes...lol. Keeping my fingers crossed that this will still be a fun game though.
It had huge sprites which was pretty impressive back then, but the game has a really slow pace. It's ok, I think it was one of my first SNES games. Co-op is always cool. I really like the way the bosses come in and do that growl thing.
Yeah, I vaguely remember there being a huge T-Rex boss and I remember shooting stone tires up at a demon of some sort. Either way, I was able to get Joe and Mac and Tale Spin for the Genesis, both complete, for about $20...the Tale Spin game doesn't look that great from the youtube videos, but I'm too much a fan of the show to pass it up. So, I guess I'll be trying these out this weekend.
So far, I'm just picking up whatever looks like it's a combination of being fun, without being a total drain on my wallet. Some of the prices on these games are outrageous, when trying to buy complete versions. I mean, I could technically afford to just drop $200 on some of these games, but it's the principle of the matter. I just can't bring myself to do it. lol.
I'm seriously considering going the way that Gohan mentioned...and just downloading the cover art...and getting some of those universal cases...
EDIT - Because another problem is trying to figure out the condition these things are in. The Joe and Mac Ebay auction stated, "the cartridge and instructions are in mint condition, the box shows some wear." "Some wear" is a bit of an understatement. The top left hand corner of the box is completely ripped. lol. There isn't any reason to leave negative feedback, because "some wear" is a bit vague and open to interpretation. I guess I just can't be picky with these SNES boxes...
