SF3rd Strike is the definition of a PERFECT! fighter and i’m dying for a new one and better be 2D or else...

I'm starting to get tired of the 'hardcore' gamers around here whining about the death of 2D. There are more 2D games being released now than ever before, open your eyes. Even if you don't consider the GBA, wich is stupid, the import PSone scene is just bursting with titles. 2D games are not a niche, and you're not special because of your tastes. SNK isn't even dead, and if they were to die tomorrow it wouldn't be the fault of the industry shunning 2D.

I don't know who you directed this to, but I'm just curious why no new Capcom 2D fighters are planned. I love 2D fighters SO much more than their 3D counterpart, I totally suck at any fighter in 3D (button mashing aside). And playing 2D fighters on the GBA is not fun at all. So I'm not whining about the lack of 2d games in general, just fighters.

It wasn't really directed at anyone in particular, just the general sentiment I see around here from some. Swirly inspired the post however. ;)

I use the term hardcore because it the term that's used to differ gamers who have a passion for video game beyond the casual gamer. As for 2D games, I'd like you to name some that's not on the GBA. Sure I count the GBA as a system, but it is not a console and I'm not big on handhelds so therefore it's ruled out since I hold it in a different catagory. It's nice that the import PSone is bursting with titles, but I rarely buy import games since there is a language barrier. I never did say that 2D games were a niche, I said we're a dying niche, as in "hardcore" gamers. I also never said I was special, but I do hold myself in a minority in the gaming industry because of my taste of games. Also I never did say SNK was dead, I said they went bankrupt.

Could you name some of those new 2D games for import PS1, Johnny?

Ah, it's fine. I don't really take things personally, but I do like to defend my point of views though. :)

I've got Volfied from the Simple 1500 series. This version has a pretty darn nice arrange mode added. Unfortunately, you can't "Tateize" the arcade mode.

Ah, who knows... Capcom might be working on SFIV- I'd think this would be a project that they'd keep quiet about to an extent. I'd prefer it to be high res 2D on the Naomi or even the Xbox arcade system.

If they do a new 3D fighter, that should be a Rival Schools title. The bitter taste of the EX series is hard to wash away.

Whenever there's a final Street Fighter, I think Capcom should consider a "Street Fighter Omega" that takes a 15 year time jump forward with Mel Masters as the hero.
