if dark souls is a JRPG than I'm all about JRPGs
I can't really get into the for real JRPGs lately. The closest I'll be getting recently is that I'll probably buy Etrian 4 knowing there's pretty much no chance I'll finish it.

They can tone down the time to complete one but the feel is what I miss.
I don't see why portables are a bad thing. I always tend to grind best on a train.
Portables are the best. Japanese games on a portable are the super best.
Stop doing EVERYTHING. Most J-RPGs can be finished in 25-30 hours, if you're not being OCD.
I hear really good things about Tales of Xillia, which is coming out here next year. That series has gotten kind of hit or miss and way to prolific, but I hear Xillia is one of the best ones yet. Between that an Ni No Kuni, I'll probably have my JRPG fix.
25-30 hours ain't much better. Make it 15 and we can talk. That's pretty much why I can only play portable RPGs these days, I put 40 hours into DQ9 in a month, but I've only put a few hours into Demons Souls.
I think the last JRPG (excluding SRPGs) I finished was Chrono Cross... when it was new. I am just incapable of finishing them anymore. In SMT's case, there is always a fight where I get stuck and refuse to go back and fuse different demons or whatever to get past it. The one that I can't explain not finishing is FFXII. I've started three times but just run out of steam. The most recent time I got hornswoggled by a hard drive that died while I was emulating it on PC. My 30+ hour save was lost, so that's probably a wrap unless S-E remakes it.
The one thing I don't mind losing in JRPGs is random battles. I hated those pieces of shit.
