I've never really had a problem with the generic cards as long as they are 1x cards. The large capacity ones can go straight to hell.

Off-brands always fuck up Square games. Guaranteed.
I'm gonna raid a Play N' Trade for some used ones over the weekend, methinks.
Otherwise I'll just emulate on my PC. I've got a USB->PS converter anyway.
I will also be playing Brave Fencer Musashi.
I recently got the game running emulated on my phone and I even have a clip that mounts my phone to PS3 controller, but I got about ten minutes in and never played again. It's one of my favorite games ever, this is a good excuse.
I have started my adventure. Here's our intrepid party:

The portraits in this game are universally hilarious. Every single one of them is clearly a photo of a developer or an acquaintance with some light image manipulation.
Here's the starting position, right outside of town:

But before we go anywhere, I decided to equip everyone with the items they start with (and show you the awesome paperdolls):

I want to kill some stuff, so rather than heading into town, I went west and took on some goblins:

That hand in the corner indicates that I'm in turn-based mode. I don't really feel like being mobbed by a zillion goblins, and this mode makes it easier to fire off spells.
Unfortunately I looted most of the goblins (which makes their corpses disappear) before I took this screenshot, so here's what I thought was the last of the group:

My party started yelling in pain at this point, so I mashed enter to go into turn-based mode, turned around, and saw that I had missed a couple.

But not for long.

The goblins dispatched, I availed myself of the loot stored in the crates by the bridge.

And with that, I headed into town and talked to a few people. Have I mentioned how amazing the portraits are? Because they are. Note that Finch is highlighted. She has the highest personality, so I'm using her to talk to the locals. You select individuals for each action like this, and have to pay attention to their stats - lower charisma means NPCs less friendly, and you'll have to either have a great reputation or bribe or threaten them to get them to talk.

I need a haircut and some pigment. And while the intellect looks dead on, I feel I've been shorted on personality. ;)
100%.
ACCURATE.
(That's the darkest the portraits get, sadly.)
