So your wife is smarter than everyone else in this thread. When was the last time Nintendo developed something that wasn't basically a direct sequel? Remember when a new Nintendo IP was Star Fox or F-Zero and not Wii Fit or Wii Party? And when their sequels at least were unique? Maybe Mario 3D can be the Treyarch Call of Duty now, while NSMB remains the Infinity Ward one!

I don't think anyone here would disagree that Nintendo has gone downhill.

And yet every one of you is lining up to buy their shit on a region locked, zero storage, overpriced, last gen system.

1. New Infinity Ward Bros. U (direct sequel)
2. Super Treyarch 3D World (direct sequel)
3. Windier Waker (remake)
4. Ugly Ass Country Returns: Pokemon Fire and Ice Edition (direct sequel)
5. Monster Hunter: Buy the Same Game a Third Time (port of a remake)
6. Yoshi's Yarn ("spiritual successor" to a recent game)
7. Mario Kart 8 (direct sequel)
8. Xenowhatever (I guess we don't know if this is a sequel or remake yet)
9. Pikmin 3 (likely direct but overdue sequel)
10. Super Rehash Bros. (direct sequel)

Innovative! Nintendo's teams have had Wii U dev kits for two years, and they have no games on shelves and only rehashes announced. It's a damn good thing they bought Platinum's time for yet another direct sequel and an actual original game.

More or less. I was using her as an example of Sally Soccer Mom. She has periphery knowledge of games through me and thinks it's a remake, it's getting bad.

I'm not going to front either. I was ready to be excited about an all new 3D Mario. But then I get shown what amounts to another expansion pack, albeit on different hardware, with co-op crammed in again. The company has no soul left. It's become megacorporation X, completely run by the board and the finance assholes.

Mario Galaxy 2 looks like the exact same game as Mario Galaxy to people who don't play games and it's the best 3d platformer ever made.

Until they actually release a shitty console version of Mario/Kart/Smash I have to go by the evidence that these will be great games.

I get sequel on the same system. Galaxy and Galaxy 2 fit the model absolutely everyone uses and are undeniably great. This cross-platform expansion pack mentality is completely different and horrible. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if there were a real new Mario in development somewhere that got put on a back burner to rush this out just to say "new Mario game 2013." And they barely are meeting the 2013 part.

I'd love Sunshine sequel.
