25 shines (not counting 50+ Blue coins that I haven't cashed in yet) and the difficulty starts to ramp up pretty high... And I love it!
Now, if only I can shake off that damn song ("Clean is better than dirty...") from my head everytime Mario's cleaning up that sludge... :D
Camera control can be frustrating, but nothing that the veterans of Mario 64 can't handle.

What's all this 'difficulty' talk? I admit, I only played an hour tops, but I didn't have any problems accomplishing anything. My beef is with the SHITTY controls, and the barely better tham SM64 graphics (graphics matter, esp. when it's the follow-up to SM64). I never had camera problems in 64, and didn't in SMS, but why the fuck didn't they use the right analog for aiming the hose? Ala Luigi, Morrowind, etc? The controls as is are shit, and suck all the enjoyment out of the game.
Yes, I tried that! What good is it to walk left or right when your enemy turns to face another direction? What's required in this situation is that you can strafe in an arc around your enemy, i.e. lock-on like Zelda:OoT. The first person perspective won't work there, either.Quote:

Okay, I've said enough... some of my impromptu comments from yesterday aren't worth your time. You guys enjoy your game. I'm selling mine. Hopefully Rayman 3 or Project BG&E will be more satifying, but I'm not going to hold my breath anymore.

Just reading some of the comments in here, wow. I'm not gonna get into this whole thing. I know my impressions will just get pushed aside, but here it goes anyway.
I could probably play Sunshine, and only Sunshine for the next four months and be perfectly happy as a gamer. I never played Mario 64, so that may have something to do with it, but whatever. What it is about this game that amkes it addicting, that makes it enjoyable, and that makes it such a pleasant experience, still manages to elude me. Still, I know I'm having a ton of fun with it and thats all I need to know.

The sand bird is a pain in the ass. He only turns once, so you don't have to worry about it after you get through it. Right before he turns, I jumped on the cloud that you pass right by. Then it rotates, and I just hop off the cloud onto his side. He rotates slowly back, so it's pretty easy to just walk as he rolls. Be sure to get the blue coins that go by on the clouds too!
Another amazing level.
Three hours of playing and watching and its a mixed bag for me...
Negatives:
- HORRIBLE camera. We were frustrated after fives minutes with the thing.
- Control is still wonky for me. Maybe I just need to give it more time, but some areas are just a pain to traverse.
- So far there really is no Nintendo/Mario charm in this game, outside of the cute Toads and the badass classic music when you go underground.
- The general music is terrible, to me at least. I hate the Carribean sound! I hope the music improves/changes style later on.
- The islanders have to be the worst character ever created. Their design is so uninspired.
- I cannot see myself playing this game for more time than it takes to beat it. 120 Shines my ass - the tedium of collecting the blue coins and Shines would kill me.
Positives:
+ The game can be really fun, and I can see the platforming elements making this one hell of a great jump-fest.
+ The whole water cannon thing should make for great antics.
+ Solid boss battles.
I am going to put a lot more time into this game before passing any sort of judgement on it. As of right now though, I can see why EThugg and Rose dislike the game so much.

I honestly do not see what is wrong with the controlls. This is coming from a guy who hates Mario 64 and all of its "I bet you can't even make Mario walk in a straight line" controller flinging awfulness. Unlike that other 3D Mario game, this one controlls just fine. Mario was triangle jumping off of walls and hovering to pinpoint locations in no time.
Practice makes perfect. I can make jumps better and move the camera to a better spot much easier now. The boss battles are just awesome in this game.
I think it controls better than Super Mario 64 once you get used it due to the GC's superior analog stick. In Super Mario 64, I would accidentally fall off edges more than in Sunshine.
