Does this seriously need a reboot? Not all comic book movies have to be dark and brooding, Rise of The Silver Surfer was adequate and felt about as serious as a movie about a stretchy man fighting a surfing alien should be. Is it really that hard or risky to come up with something new?
Hollywood seems to think so.
The issue is that Fox can't let more than (specific number not publicly known, but it's somewhere between 5 and 10) years pass without making a new one, or the rights revert back to Marvel. This is the entire reason The Sorta Alright Spider-Man exists, and why Marvel got Daredevil back and are now bringing him to Netflix - that's how all the contracts from their 90s desperation phase are structured.
