These are great calls. It's harder to decide on a year than it is on the fact that the Genesis NHL games will forever be the best sports games ever. TSS has a very narrow genre, but it's also one of my all-time favorite games.
I like SnR, but not over TSS.
I agree, I picked NHL 94 because that is the one I played the most with my friends. I believe that was the first one that introduced the one timer (which nearly broke the game). I think the last Genie NHL is 98, and it has a lot of improvements over 94 but I never played it with my friends so I don't know how that compares. NHL 94 (especially the Sega CD version) is the best.

Alundra for the Zelda-style puzzle infused action RPG.

I liked the first game in the series the most. All the weird glitchy things the puck would do made it more fun to play.
