This Month's Haul - July, 2014

I'm not the person to ask. There are those that say the Dreamcast/Naomi versions are the only ones to play, the Gamecube is close if you can't play the DC version, and the XBLA version is trash. I...can't really tell the difference, other than I think the music in the XBLA port is compressed. I mostly got it because the Dreamcast is one of the few systems I still collect for and I'm trying to fill all the holes in my collection before the price jumps like some of other systems have in the past few years.Dude was selling it for $40 shipped, which seemed to be a pretty nice deal.

Say, pick up SFIII: Double Attack on DC if you get a chance, the different backgrounds and soundtracks for New Generation and Giant Attack make it worthwhile!

That game is on the way, actually! I had it when it was new, but I think I lost it in a move or something. I may be in the minority, but I prefer Second Impact to Third Strike.

The backgrounds are as good as Capcom ever made 'em in that game, I think! Third Strike has a bunch of prerendered Resident Evil looking crap everywhere.

The UI (lifebars etc) and character select screen are nicer too, I think.

The GC Ikaruga has backwards enemy movement and mirrored bullet patterns for, like, one phase of one boss.

Unplayable.

You're thinking of a different game. You're thinking of Mortal Kombat 3.

The practice mode for the GC version would do some odd stuff, especially if you repeated sections over and over.

How is the Steam version of Ikaruga? From the impressions on the Shmups forums, it sounds like it's better than the XBLA version. It also got a patch that fixed some bugs, though I'm not sure if this corrected all issues.

It's very good, though I am not familiar enough with the game to catch all the nuances. It doesn't have that typical Japanese PC game jank.

Nah! Remy's stage in particular is a mess!

There are some good bgs in 3S, but they peaked with Giant Attack.

Aw, I like Remy stage. Giant Attack's backgrounds are the best, though. No argument there.
