It was bound to happen sometime. Just wait for the Gran Turismo episode just kidding I'm not playing that trash.
Making our way through Mega Man Legends and Tail Concerto now. Those two games have surprisingly similar themes and settings!
You seem to have strayed from truly underrated, niche stuff to stuff that has been overrated by legend. My general advice would be that if you're going to cover something on Nintendo or PlayStation hardware to ask yourselves if it really fits with what I thought the original intent of the podcast was. There are certainly games that do, e.g. Nier.
edit: Otherwise, you're headed for a Run Saber and Hagane episode for example, two games that aren't really that good but are expensive and overrated because SNES supporters want to lie to themselves about having something to compete with Strider and Shinobi.
I quite enjoy Run Saber.
Strider was good but it's gotten pretty overrated too.
That's probably true. It's certainly no Shinobi III or Rondo, though it's also a bit older in fairness.
Was the intent of the podcast to talk about niche games, though? Are Mario and Wario Land so arcane? I felt like the purpose was to give kinda on-the-cusp games that often get lumped in with major franchises the deep and individual treatment they deserve.
"Okay, I know we've already been over this a hundred times, and I'm sorry, but I want to be sure: One last time, once more before I click Upload, are we absolutely sure beyond doubt that this episode is in line with Yoshi's vision of our intent?"
Maybe not. That's why I was careful to point out that it was what I thought the original intent was.
edit: If what you said is the case, Salamander should have been the first three episodes.
Strider overrated? Maybe on a few select hardcore message boards I can see the argument but most of the general gaming population and media nowadays don't know it exists.
A thing Retronauts over there does well is short-subject 'micro' podcasts, 15 minutes with a single host doing a rundown of a particular game. Seems like a good way to cover interesting stuff that doesn't have a lot of depth to it.
