The problem isn't that it's boring (although it is), it's that it make no sense in the context of the movie. Which is a problem compounded when you realize major character motivations depend on this dumb framing of the war (and where invasions happen, how power is shifted), and therefore make no sense either. It isn't at all about wealthy people marginalizing others, although Lucas may have thought it had enough depth that it could be.
Wouldn't that be the problem, though? For the politics and trade negotiations, however little of it there was, to stand out so much means there's NOTHING going on in this movie.Quote:

I'm not saying that it was done well. The causes of real wars is rarely done well. It takes a while for wars to spark. Decades of annoyance to the powerful. Decades of oppression to the middle and lower casts. It's a slow boil and entertainment is bad at that. Games could do it, but few if any bother. Everyone wants to drop into the middle of a war. Right into the adventure or tragedy depending on the goal of the team.

It makes sense in that Palpatine exposes the weakness of the Senate, by targeting a weak member of the whole group. He pretty much exposes that there are interest groups that have an influence on the Senate leader, and thus, Palpatine comes into power because of it. He pretty much creates a false war, based around a fault he had found within the leadership of the Senate. The bigger failure to the story was the sudden turn of Anakin Skywalker to the dark side.Quote:
