That is so wrong.
Fucking city of San Diego!
I feel bad for the fans, but I voted NO on a new stadium, and I'm glad the majority agreed that us footing the bill was absurd.
There are other ways that the City could foot the bill. Raise taxes on hotels, car rental and sales tax. The City of Arlington paid for the ballpark in 1993 and half of Jerry World. Arlington is about to break ground for a new Rangers Ballpark, even though the current park isn't even 25 years old. San Diego is a hell of a lot bigger than Arlington, and Arlington was a shithole before those City renovations that started with the ballpark in 93. The City of San Diego is taking a big loss in the food and entertainment industry with the loss of the NFL.
Good riddance. Fuck that organization, only the players were ever lovable and they'll all retire at some point. Owners, front office and coaches have been garbage forever.
Go Steelers.
LA now has two shitty teams to be apathetic, how lovely.
The measure was introduced as a 6% tax on the city's hotel occupancy tax. Yet the SD Tax Payer Association calculated we would end up significantly short and have to use the city's General Fund.
I don't know how you can make such a bold claim when there are plenty of studies arguing that stadium subsidies outweigh the benefits.
San Diego would be hosting a Super Bowl within several years of the stadium being built. The Super Bowl generates nearly $800 million for the host state alone, and $100s of millions of that goes to the local economy.

I can't read the article you posted, past the 1st page, I did notice that they are talking about bush league stadiums though. It's not quite the same.
Wait, the NFL says that Super Bowl hosts make a ton of money? Wow that's incredible.
$800 million lol. Total bullshit number. If you look at actual studies from reputable people, you'll see that all the economic benefits from stadiums are mainly pulled from other parts of the city. They don't really do much of anything except make rich people more money.
Dean Spanos had a year to see football going over in LA like a lead balloon and he decides to go there? He's dumb as hell.
I'm guessing that you didn't read the article. The study conducted by Arizona State University, showed how much revenue the Arizona hosted Super Bowl generated for the state and city.

Like I'd said earlier, the City of Arlington was able to afford the building of Jerry World and is now in such a good financial situation, that they can afford to provide funds to build a new ballpark for the Texas Rangers as well. The city is going to have its portion of Jerry World paid off 14 years early, because of the economic boom that the stadium has provided for the surrounding Arlington area.

Did San Diego really give any kind of research, or effort, into keeping the Chargers in their city?
