I favor knights early on, where they're more effective at moving around a crowded board, but bishops later on, when they can dominate open lines.
I can't believe Maruchan plays chess. Anyway, I doubt the resources that went into Deep Blue have gone into a Go machine. It's not like Chessmaster can beat Kasparov.

Because you can't (or don't care to) spell correctly. You don't project the image of a chess player.
I'm a casual chess player.
Never studied patterns, openings, and the like, though it's been in the back of my mind as something to do for quite some time.
My problem is that my chess-playing friends are so much more skilled than me that I can't really learn much from playing them.
sleeveboy, I once met this girl playing chess about a year ago. I was pretty good, and she plain sucked, didn't even know how the pieces moved. We played a few games and I wiped her out, but through the coarse of a few months, we played somehwhere from 100-500 games, with my not giving many pointers. But she got much better just from learning from my moves, and now she is pretty good and occasional wins against me. Sigh, the student beating the teacher. So anyways, want to play with us whenever we start? And do you, burgundy, want to play? And anyone else reading =P I wanna get this started as soon as possible, been so long since I played chess and I'm quite enthusiastic as to playing with people I know.

i suck ass at Chess and hardly ever play it but have you guys played Kung-Fu Chess?! it was damn fun when i played it. 4-player chess! and instead of turns, whenever you move a piece you can't move it for a set amount of time but you can move as many pieces as you want as long as they have no timer on em.
