Biggest Suprises
NeoZeed has his thread about disappointment, so here's one about suprises. Has there ever been a game you purchased against your better judgement and ended up being pleasantly suprised? If so, let's hear it!
My most recent pleasent suprise is the Mark of Kri. I thought it was going to suck my hairy, Jewish ass...but I can't put the damned thing down! And the art! Oh, the art!

Zelda Ages and Seasons for GBC. I knew they were gonna be good, but I had no idea HOW good.
Still working my way through seasons, but it still makes me think "damn, this game is good" about everytime I play it.

On my 14th birthday, I got some money to buy a game. I went to the mall to buy Rastan but I couldn't find it anywhere. So, I looked at Kenseiden's box. I had never heard of the game. Video game mags hadn't even mentioned it from what I could tell. It looked cool, dark and Japanese. It turned out to be one of my favorite 8-bit games.

Well, I love this thread :)
DMC - I knew it will be awesome, but it became most fun experience of the last year for me :)
Shadow Hearts/Koudleka - I was cautious about it, and didnt get it when it came out, and went to play Koudelka first, and once done with that, started SH, and was greatly surprised. I loved the story, characters, music and fun times that games gave me :)
JSRF - I didnt like original JSR, so I wasnt sure if I will like the sequel, but when we tried it, the game was a blast. Very fun :)
SSBM - Same as JSRF example, I hate Super Smash Bros on N64, but the sequel is a delight to play :)
Silent Hill and Fatal Frame - Too great horror games, that caught me off guard. I went in expecting usual RE scares, but they were much more, truly creepy and disturbing. I love them both :)

GTA3 and Valkyrie Profile are obvious choices for me.
Another one would be Rollcage for PSone. Judging by the reviews, I wasn't expecting much, but I ended up really enjoying it. It probably helped that I played it before any of the Wipeout series.
-
Drakan Ancient Gate on PS2. I mised it when it came out, but then read alot of good comments about it on these boards, especially by Will :), so I gave it a rent: The game is good :) It controls well, environments are huge, there are many secrets to find, weapons and magic to learn, Dragon riding is fun :), it feels like 3rd person Diablo game, only with Dragon riding feature :)
Been plaing it for the last week, and having great time with it.

Crazy Taxi 3.
Oh, and Heavy Metal Geomatrix slightly surprised me.
-
Suprises, huh?
- When the Moogles first showed up in FF 3(6)
- Raiden being the real star of MGS2. Suprise!
- Every time I thought I explored all of Castlevania SOTN, finding a new area.
-
I really enjoyed Incoming for some reason.
Also, I picked up Vanguard Bandits not expecting much of anything at all. It ended up being one of the best games I have ever played.

Heavy metal Geomatrix surprised me, Stone got me into it and it's a steal for 20 bucks. Drakan as Despair stated is a great surprise and actually did get great reviews from sites.
Max Steel for DC is a pleasant surprise for what it's worth, almost a guilty please. It has hilarious insane things you just have to play to see.
