First Look: Xbox Controller S

Xbox pad feeling too bulky to hold? Microsoft unveils the first details of its all new domestic pad...

While they claim that they consulted hoards of play testers to test their new controller, Microsoft still managed to catch lots of heat for their rather bulky Xbox controller. Gamers complained it was too large, the buttons were off, the triggers didn’t feel right; just about everything. Even worsening the situation is the much smaller and ergonomic Japanese gamers got. Fortunately, Microsoft listened, and the result is the <b>Xbox Controller S</b>, which is now coming stateside.

The first thing you will notice obviously is the size, or lack of it really. The new design is much smaller, which should help gamers with smaller hands. It’s buttons also got a change up – they are now in a plus shape like the Playstation’s controller. Also, the black and white buttons that were once on the top of the controller are now tucked in the lower right hand side. Finally, the D-pad was changed to make the cross more defined.

Microsoft plans on charging the same price as the original Xbox controller, $39.95, when the <i>Xbox Controller S</i> is released stateside. I have personally fealt these pads and they are smaller but after some time with them I like the bigger pads better.

YES I have played with the Type-S, NO it was not an import.

The only thing I can say is I am glad they didn't use the Japanese buttons and stayed with the rounded, non textured buttons now that there is only four buttons on the upper right side of the controller.

On the downside, the black and white buttons are less than convenient. Ugh. Makes my hands cramp just thinking about extended play...

Wait, the new S pad still has those damn jellybean shaped buttons? I hate those things. My thumb still hasn't recovered from the pain they caused from extended JSRF sessions and they're making playing DOA3 significantly harder than it should be. Looks like I'll be importing after all.

The 'fat' controller is fine with me... I haven't once felt uncomfortable with it. It's good to have officially made options though... 3rd party pads are poop.

There's no way you're fine with the fat controller. That thing is like trying to play video games while holding a Big Mac together as the thousand island dressing* turns the bun into a soggy mess. You're full of shit EThugg.
