But they were good eps and he pitched in jokes and such on others, but they had a lot of good writers in their prime... not going to say anything bad about current season because I haven't seen a new ep for a while.
The two boxsets of the first and second seasons are great though, if just for the commentary alone. Can't wait for box 3.
I love the show to death, uh seasons 1-10 anyways. It was still just fine IMHO all the way up to season 10 but later that year when Groening and the core team left to do Futurama it has been downhill ever since. The show has turned into a lot of the crap they used to make fun of. Idiot writers and producers like Mike Scully (he's FINALLY gone) have turned it into the stupid-retard-Homer-show with plots that are barely above Family Guy quality. Heck, they don't USE the other characters, it's all 99% focused on some stupid overdone gag Homer (who has become the least likeable character on the show, I really could care less if a bus ran him over) does every week. Lisa has become an annoying politically correct pseudo adult child, Bart just background noise, Marge is dumber than a bag of hammers and Homer is even dumber. And the plots, uh Homer is somewhat responsible for the death of Ned's wife, last season had an ep which blatantly promoted N'SYNC even adding concert/promo footage of the group into the end credits, the comic book guy gets it on with an 80+ year old woman, is that the best they can do? *vomit* And they keep putting in these stupid endings (the "Ghostbusters" ending, the ending with everyone surfing on fish all of a sudden) that make no sense which make me want to hunt down the current staff and violently execute the current staff. There was the episode where Homer got his finger cut off and at the end a monkey comes up and yells "Tell them the ending made no sense!" Haha. Oh I get it, writers with no talent making crappy endings is OK because it's just a little 'irreverant' sparring match between those dumb internet fans who don't know what they're talking about when they say the show isn't as good as it used to be." Anyhoo, there's still a few good eps here and there like Krusty and his daughter but the lame gags and butchering of the characters has gotten so bad, I usually find myself turning the channel within the first 10 minutes of most new episodes, something I thought I'd never do. I honestly think the current staff could care less about the show and is trying to run it into the ground. Reminds me of that old episode where Bart said to Homer "Dad, if I ever have my own TV show I want to run it into the ground too." Heh. Oh well, I'll have my season 1-10 DVDs.

I think the best episodes are the ones handled by David Mirkin, Brad Bird, or Jon Vitti (Vitti wrote the Mr. Bergstrom episode).
Got to agree with diffusionx, Kosh, etc. They basically dumbed the show down for the ADD crowd. Everyone is out of character and totally devoid of any intelligent or witty comments. It’s just a lot of annoying screaming and half assed “jokes.” I assume the show was in dire need of mass appeal so they bastardized it and it's characters, because there is no way in hell that Matt Groening, James Brooks, or anyone else who works/ed on the show cannot see the blatant difference in quality between the newer garbage and the old stuff. I hear they might do a movie... blech, I really hope this doesn't happen.
But, like diffusionx said, if you like it that's fine by me. I just don't think you have a very good sense of humor ;)
It's a damn shame that shitty ass Simpsons episodes are still being churned out but shows that are actually funny are being canned- Futurama, Family Guy. Just to let you all know, both these series are slowly being released on DVD in Europe. Any chance for an R1 release won't come around for quite some time.

Yes, we all know it's been downhill for The Simpsons for awhile now. But it's still The Simpsons and that's reason enough for me to watch. It seems that in the past few seasons theres always this unrelated Act 1 where stuff happens that has nothing to do with the actual story. I don't know why they do this. And yes, Homer has gotten progressively stupider every year and will probably be even stupider this season. It's like the only jokes revolve around Homer's stupidity. And another thing. My favorite episodes have always been the ones that have to do with the school and the teachers and Mr. Burns and all those great characters, but now all the show is is the family going to far off places doing stupid things. But we still have the reruns and joy will always be found in those even though I've seen every episode about 10 times. I actually haven't watched the show in awhile so when I finally do it'll be sort of fresh. Hopefully this next season will bring some changes with it but I doubt it. I guarantee it'll be the last season anyway. I wonder how they'll end the series. I've heard alot about a Simpsons movie though. Anyone know anything about this? For some reason I just don't think The Simpsons are fit for the big screen, but we'll see.
P.S. My favortie episode is the one where Lisa steals all the teacher edition textbooks and all the teachers become retarded. God I wish that would happen in real life. Twenty two short stories of Springfield is also great, and the one with all the baseball players is a classic, but they never show it on the reruns :(. And do you think they'll ever tell us what state Springfield is in? I remember in one episode someone asks Lisa what state she lives in and she says something like "the answer is there, you just have to look at the clues." Wonder what that means. Eh, I've rambled on long enough.

Those are some good episodes you mentioned. I hope The Simpsons don't make it to the big screen. They've been desecrated enough as it is, don't do it on the big screen. I read some plot outlines in Entertainment Weekly for the new 14th season... same old bullshit- pop music groups as guest stars *shudders to think of that boy band episode*... all manner of "wacky" adventures, etc. etc. Futurama, however, sounds great- for example; in one episode Bender gets a sex change operation and becomes a fembot. BTW, Cartoon Network has picked up Futurama for Adult Swim, which is awesome. They could even order more episodes if they like.
Oh, I believe they did mention where Springfield is in that lame ass "Behind the Laughter" episode. Springfield was supposed to be the small town we could all identify with... a place all across America and in all our hearts. Then in that shitty episode Lisa (if memory serves) just blurts out "Kansas" or something. Lame lame lame.
Best episode ever - Homer gets a tennis court! With the human chess pieces, best moment ever in the Simpsons. Or when they get a pool in the yard and Bart is injured.
God i love that show. The old episodes are the best but some of the new ones are pretty dam funny.
