I came after Fight Club.
Sounds interesting, but... What was it?
I like this place quite a bit. Laid back, and not overflowing with poseurs spouting off about things that they know nothing about, at least in the areas that I have been reading so far. I do not do much out side of the General Discussion area, though.
The Mods seem to be decent, although I have seen very little of them. There does not seem to be much for them to do, at least compared to where I Mod. Over there, I have had to adopt a Shoot-First, Ask Questions Later policy, what with the way things tend to operate.
My mistake bro...compared to some of the more outrageous outbursts, yours just came at the time when I was under A LOT of fire. There's never anything wrong with speaking your mind, just the way one goes about it. I have just got a bit fed up with a lot of ppl telling me how I should run things on this board, which gives me the impression there are more non-appreciative people than those that are (fortunately, I tend to know more of who the latter is). But other than that Phoenix, it's all good, you're o.k. in my book (even if it's not mutual) :)Quote:

I only typed it in really large letters to be kind of funny. He wasn't amused...
I just don't like his way of doing things too much. I know I'm not in charge, and I'm a guest, but he just comes off as faschist to me.
*Awaits banning for speaking his mind*
To all:
I am really sorry for the tone that I've held over the past few months, I admit - it's been downright nasty at times, and as a manager of both a board and a forum community, there's definitely a great need for both tact and consideration for others.
Those who generally have been banned were mainly removed for the fact that they didn't offer any beneficial contributions to the site. Take for example, SevenForce - a person who many of us have come to appreciation his contributions (and even more so, is the latest addition to the TNL family) was hardly someone that deserves to be banned...but there were others that were. And generally, those removed were justified to other staffers as to why they could never come back. I realize that this is a grey area, and many of you are asking for Ethugg's head...should we find that he's totally going over the line than the admin will deal with him (or anyone else that brings down the quality and enjoyment of these boards).
...and that's really the keywords here - quality and enjoyment.
Not to make any excuses, but it's VERY hard to manage both and to project that type of image (at least in the very beginning, it's become my top priority over the past few weeks), which is why I went out of my way to find persons from both the staff (Nick, Burg, among others) and community (Mode7, cigs, innova, Master, etc.) to help lighten the load for me and they've done a commendable job overall IMO, even if some of you disagree. Stop for a moment to compare this board to some of the more populated boards, and you'll see that the rate of "lameness" and issues that normally bring a board down to nothing but a waste of space and bandwidth...TNL is doing alright!
When many of the GameGo! crew came over, it wasn't easy warming up to everyone, as I knew that many were already accustomed to the boards functioning a certain way. Posters felt at ease, and the communication lines were open (though many do seem to forget in the wake of all the positive elements, at least from what I was told - ECM was hella strict and threads were deleted much more so than they've been here). But beyond that, I tried my best to make things fun...and there are definitely times it was hard to convey this to everyone beyond the rules and guidelines which were only established to keep things in order.
But I really do appreciate Nick taking the time to post this (I wasn't even aware of this thread until just a few minutes ago). I may sound entirely like an asshole, but I do care about developing a place everyone can enjoy...(though the reality is, you can't please everyone). Sometimes, it's just hard to keep focus and I apologize to all of those that I am at fault for driving away or for not taking enough action in dealing with those who devalue the atmosphere of the board. Please understand that the moderation personnel are here to help and keep things as orderly as possible so that your board dicussions are both productive and enjoyable.
If you really see a problem with the moderation, take it up with them personally. If it's with me, I have no objections to talking with any of you on ICQ, AIM, or through PM. While I did make a post stating I feel that at times this isn't a community - it truly is one, a very diverse and active one that I've been proud to speak about to others. By far I consider the entire group of members here one of the greatest collection of gamers available on the net. (Hopefully when we can finally get off this blasted server, the speed will attract even more people).
With that said, I am hoping that this post can be considered as me turning over a new leaf in wanting to work with all of you in making TNL - both the site and its forum community visiting worthwhile.
My only complaints have to deal with the board design. Most members are curtious and intelligent.
1) There are too many boards. All the movie talk and whanot could easily squeeze into Sound Off!, leaving Gaming Discussion and perhaps TradeDepot.
2) Sticky topics are annoying.
3) The colour scheme is getting tiresome. A simple white layout would be a nice change.
4) All the stats under usernames are unneeded. An avatar and registration date would do just fine.
5) Private Messaging likely taxes the board quite a bit. Things can get really slow at times, and leaving people to email would speed everything up.
Oh and if the boards are cut down in number, it would be nice to have them linked through buttons rather than menu.
I have to hand it to you bahn. That post was a serious morale booster (you even got me a little warmed up to you).
:)
Mman: The Stickies-for-One concept can't be executed with vBulletin or any other BB software, not that I am aware of.
Rick: (impatiently) Jingles have music?
YAWA: (That couldn't possibly be YAWA, could it? What's next - a JAPJAC sighting?)
Tain: Well, well, well. What have we here? A newbie!
*walks around Tain while slowly slapping palm with riding crop*
Fight Club, Mr. Johnny-Come-Lately was a world unto itself. A forum without laws. A nation without a god - save one! And only the Tin-Pan-Alley efforts of young Rick can ever hope to undo the seal that holds it in its infernal sarcophagus.
Do you hear music?!?
Well, neither do I!
*leers*
Johnny: Okay, I have noted all your comments. The Stickies and PMs are staying, but watch for a major speed boost before Rudolph's nose next lights the sky.
I don't think any of those issues are responsible for people hating the boards, though.
Note: Someone at work told me he lurks here because the crowd is a little too "intimidating."
You may pat yourselves on the back.
Say, Nick? I think I speak for us all when I say this; go to bed. Go now.
:P
But the "Do you hear music?!?" comment cracked me up nearly as much as Stibbons post in that FFT thread, so good job there.
To Johnny - you can switch your forum color scheme to the Gamego style - its a much nicer and lighter shade than the TNL one.
I think the forums are great except that E-'thug' fellow. He just ain't right in the head...
Oh, and I second or third it that EThugg is great. He, Stibbons, and AFX are some of the reasons I continue to post here.
