There's a difference with arcades and online; most arcades are based on a single challenge while most online have continuous spawning. A lot of smack is done right after a kill from either the dead one or the attacker.
Then (in both cases) you get people hanging around after their death or loss to talk random stuff. I still like it around, it helps show that you aren't just fighting bots. Funnily enough, my lack of talk in Q3 actually convinced a few players that I was a bot, they kept trying to give me orders and stuff during a CTF game. Friggin' noobs.
