Devil World
This has got to be one of the least known Nintendo-developed games. Devil World is a maze-chase game where you control a dragon. Like Pacman, you must collect dots. Unlike Pacman, you must be holding a crucifix to collect dots. The devil is at the top of the screen and he keeps changing the direction that the screen scrolls. On the next level you have to collect bibles and bring them to the centre of the screen.
Due to the fear of religious freaks, this game never appeared in North America. It came out on the Famicom Disk System in Japan and on cartridge in Europe.
Fans of maze-chase and/or early Nintendo games should check it out.
It would be nice if Nintendo would release an e-reader version but there's not a chance in hell of that happening.

Looks nifty. I'd love to give it a go someday.

Aw, man! I thought this thread was about the Konami-designed Gauntlet clone (a.k.a. Dark Adventure in North America), not some dopey Nintendo game.

When I was making this thread, I thought about that game but I couldn't remember if it had the same name or not. Konami's one wasn't bad. I played it on MAME a couple years ago.

He sure looks a lot like Bub.

That is rather odd....So, what came first, Bub or the Devil World Dragon?
-
I do sorta see the resemblance, but the game does predate any version of Bubble Bobble by two years.
It's a slightly fun "Pac-Man" sort of maze game that the early 80s had no shortage of. It's more of an interesting footnote in the Famicom/NES history than anything.

Sweet!

Look closely. The Shyguys are in it too.
