Yoshi's Story isn't Yoshi's Island, and I wasn't expecting it to be. The songs and cute little Yoshi screetches are aggravating, but Baby Mario has them all beat.
So why has this game gotten so much abuse? It looks and sounds quite nice, and while the game is short, it has branching paths, much like StarFox, and there's plenty of replay to be had there.

It is far too short, the gameplay takes a step down from Yoshi's Island, it's easy, the whole fruit sniffing and collecting seems a cheap way of extending the game.

I think gist of it is that Yoshi's Story had so much to live up to, and fell so horribly short. Taking a small step back from Yoshi's Island would have been acceptable since Yoshi's Island is just so damn amazing and that kind of greatness is hard to duplicate. But the leap back that Yoshi's Story took was just so devistating that all of the game's good qualities (visuals, etc) got lost in the overall shock of the game's de-evolution.

And I don't think it's that easy. There's only a limited number of Yoshis to burn in each game, unlike most other plats where it's continue, continue, continue.
I probably won't sniff out all the melons, but then again, I wasn't interested in acing Island either.
Yoshi's Island deserved to have a sequel that measured up to the original.
Yoshi's Story failed to meet that high-water mark and hence will forever live in the shadow of its prequel...
I would have liked Story, if not for those "Should have been" feelings...

I have never played it. What is the general concensus of those on this board regarding how much its worth (in respect to the entertainment provide by the game)?
Is it $10 of fun, $20 of fun, or $40 of fun?
I hate the way N64 games never lose their value. They are like the Toyotas of the videogame world.
I bought it for $15 and I'm pleased with it. It doesn't seem like it's that easy to come across.
$20-25 worth of fun. I played it and liked it alot for what it was. I'll never forget the Yoshi song...never.
