have you played it? (edit - i read closer and you wrote crap shoot, i thought it said crappy shooter, eh - im at work) i just checked it out on system16.com and it looks pretty good, with a color border shield system (a la ikaruga)and some beaut graphics, looks like a souped up R-Type, plus they mention it being developed by the Rayforce team...awesome, and being published by Sega??? cant be that bad.

remember Trasure does not rule the universe when it comes to shmups (i found RS to be overated)....CAVE does.

Indeed they are. This has been confirmed.
IGN did a nice update detailing some features of the home release. It als seems as if the fabled prototype means an Ikaruga prototype, but there seems to be some question about the translation there. Anyway, it's a good update with some new info. Go check it out.

So why Dreamcast? Why now? Japan's multiplatform Dorimaga publication, formerly the Dreamcast-only Dreamcast Magazine, asked Treasure's Masato Maegawa (known in some circles as the company's President, in other circles as God) that very question. "Saying that ecause it's on Naomi it will also be on Dreamcast' is something that's so easily understood that I'd be lying if I said it wasn't part of my thinking,"d Maegawa. "However, we made Ikaruga for the arcades, so we wanted it to first have a life there. If it wasn't a success, a home version would not be possible. It's easy for users to think of Naomi and DC as a set, but we greatly dislike the idea of the arcade version of a game being just a demo test for the home version."

Maegawa continues, "With Ikaruga, we truly targeted the core users who like our games, and we firstly placed importance towards them."

Fans of Treasure will note that the company has so far only released one Dreamcast game, a greatly remixed version of N64's Bakuretsu Muteki Bangaioh. Maegawa is aware of this, and joked that he'd heard such comments from users as "When is Treasure going to support Dreamcast?" Now that the team has an original DC game under their belts, Dorimaga asked for Maegawa's opinion of the DC hardware. "Because it is very flexible hardware, you always hear developers stating 'Dreamcast is easy to work with.' The Ikaruga team also states, 'We wish we could work with Naomi and DC again.'" And, as Maegawa later states in the same interview, it's possible that the team could make use of the Naomi board in future arcade projects.

Man oh man, Treasure is officially the most hardcore fan friendly company above Capcom.

This quote reminds me of the Edge interview he did last year where he emphatically defended shooter fans insisting we are still out there and dedicated even though we are outclipsed by folks who buy mainstream games. :cool:

Wow, that was quite a little interview. It's safe to say should I ever encounter Mr. Maegawa on the streets it will require the jaws of life to remove him from my affectionate bear hug. As for using Naomi for future projects, that would be very cool but it would seem more likely they use the 2 or 3 level of the board. I hope Ikaruga sells well for Treasure.

And the name of the puzzler is Doki Doki Star (Idol?) Remix, Ammadeau has a copy and a review on his site I believe. *-neo

What? Treasure announcing their games on their own site? Will wonders never cease?!

Maybe they'll finally get around to putting up something about Tiny Toons in the next few months...

according to the update on their site, it doesn't look like they'll be putting anything extra in terms of bosses or stages in the game..

but hey.. i'm really fucking happy right now..:D


also, looks like ESP will do the publishing for ikaruga.. nice..
