Modern VGA monitors are perfect for flipping. The monitor I'm using at the moment has been flipped back and forth constantly since I got it, and is perfectly fine. Turn it off, let it degauss, then flip. Older monitors will have to follow the same 'cool down' rules as TVs.Quote:

It's not just because it's Treasure or just because it's a shmup, or even the combination of both. No one cared about Silpheed 2. It's because it looks so damned awesome. Have you seen the vids from Treasure's site? It's one of the most impressive looking shmups ever.Quote:

i guess the only issue for me now is finding a sturdy way to set it on its side.. the back part of my 19'' is shaped kinda weird, so that might be a challenge..
anyone know of any other shooters off the top of your head that have the option for a vertical or horizontal setup?
No reason not to flip your monitor. Just degauss it after you flip it and flip it back.

I know there are more, but I can't think of them. Get yourself a Commodore 64 monitor. They have a nice high resolution, are very sturdy & only run about $60 on ebay. I have a 14 inch Commodore Monitor that stays on it's side with it's own saturn hooked up to it, just for vert shmupping. Dodonpachi & Battle Garegga are so good in TATE mode that it totally justifies the purchase, & with Ikaruga & DDP 3 coming it is a sound investment to say the least.

I guess I'm just not hardcore enough, but I don't really mind the letterboxing. It's just a convenience, IMO.
It's not an issue of being 'hardcore,' it's an issue of actually playing these games the way they were meant to be experienced. It's easy, it's affordable, and there's really no reason not to do it. Once you go tate, you never go back.Quote:
