Are you a bigger fan of games that are so expansive that you will NEVER complete it all, or are you a completist that enjoys knowing you have experienced all there is to experience in a game? Or is there a happy medium for you?
I sometimes enjoy a shorter, simpler game that I can master (like DOA3) but sometimes I like knowing that there will always be more for me to do (like Virtua Fighter 4).
Thoughts? How much game is the right amount?
Depends on the kind of game. In RPG's and most action games I prefer not being able to do everything that there is to do in one play through. In a game like a shooter or a driving game (usually) I would like there to be a limited scope and a way to really master the game. Same with fighters, though I suppose I rest somewhere inbetween somehow.

I usually prefer games that are 8-20 hours. I don't want them to be too short, but being too long, like 40-70 hours, is a hassle for me. That means that I'd be pretty much playing the same game for a month at the minimum.
Personally I think I always end up going back to games that have that offer alittle something more to master with every play.
Instance; how cool would it be if Dracula X PS/SS just offered to "reset" the castle every time you got 200% and doubled (or 4x or whatever) the strength of all the enemies each time you finished the percentage completion, tallying a total % all the way? Some people would probably be still playing it..
I like games that can be completed in a fairly short amount of time, but offer lots more to do if you enjoy the gameplay enough. Kinda like Mario Sunshine and 64.
As for RPGs- I wish they aimed more for the 10-15 hour mark rather than the 40+ some of them aim for. I am sick of spending most of my game time leveling up...

I would much rather spend hours increasing my skill in one game, such as a shooter or a fighting game...
I find this much more enjoyable than spending hours on one game attempting to discover every nook and cranny.
I think 'shorter' games tend to focus more on technique and skill... Which is always very rewarding to improve upon.
It really depends on the Genre.
I generally like shorter games that take 5-15 hours to finish, unless were're talking about Culdcept II - I never wanted that game to end :)
I also wish that RPGs were shorter - then I might actually play more than one RPG a year.

It totally varies for me. I would say on average I like my games shorter than most people do. I play and buy so many games and there isn't time for all of them. If a game is too long I'm less likely to play through it multiple times.

That game is the perfect length, and it has branching paths.
