  1. Anybody else think the Matrix is overrated?

    I liked it. It was good the first time I saw it. Then I saw it again. And again. And again.

    Here is the impression I am left with:

    Bad acting all around.
    Mediocre fight scenes, clearly by people without skill (keanu/laurence)
    Trying to be deep, when in fact, its not. (like many Animes)



    This movie is like "The Game" to me. Once I have watched it and learned about all the surprises contained within, it just isn't entertaining anymore.

    Good first watch, not a film I'd want to own. Thoughts?

    PS: I feel the same way about Fight Club, though to a lesser extent... As it is also by no means "deep".

  2. Well, Sure, it wasnt completely original. But what creators accomplished was mix of some groundbreaking FX(that been copied to death nowdays), unique style, introduced high kicking HK style fighting to wide audiences(making Yen-Woo-ping a well known name )

    Sure, Actors(Keanu, Fishburn) cant fight for real, but I think they did hella good job with their action scenes. The movie was fun to watch(at least the action sequences).

    But I agree with you, that its being hyped too much. Since Matrix, every time people see a fight scene that involves some wire work, they say that its being rip off of Matrix, while its well known that its been used in HK films for decades

  4. The gun totting scenes in the Matrix left me breathless.

    Going to the theaters and seeing the Matrix for the first time, that's priceless.

  6. If you don't think Fight Club is deep, then what movie would you say fits the bill?

    The Matrix is one of the greatest movies(and DVDs) ever made, so I'll have to answer the thread question with a "no".

  7. It's not overrated. You're plain sick of it and of course you would be if you watch it (what has been at least) four times.

    Since I never resist an opprotunity to take pot shots at animes, I agree that most animes are for more shallow than they want you to believe, but The Matrix is at least creative (never really seen something like this executed so successfully) and excises all that melodrama.

    And there really are a lot more movies deeper than Fight Club.

  9. Nope...not at all.

    And the only people that dont think Fight Club is deep have not read the book. When you read the book the themes and stuff become much clearer, and then you catch many of the things in the movie that make it so deep.

    I dont think the Matrix tries to be too deep. Touches on a few things, but nothing major. And the action is top notch.
