  4. Back in my younger days....

I don't have a costume for this year but one year I went as Box1 from Metal Gear Solid. Tied 1rst place in a costume contest. I didn't spend as much time on my costume as other people in the group; yet none was as cool or as original as my costume. I realized that it was so powerfull, I decided to retire the costume untill there was a Holoween where it would be needed

  5. Box1! Perhaps the greatest costume ever! Did you try sliding around in the box and avoiding genome soldiers? Cuz you know, you couldn't lift the box and walk around with your feet until MGS2.

  6. Just because, here's a small tale regarding the origin of the Jack-O-Lantern:

There was once a mischievous Irishman named Jack who spent his time playing tricks on everyone he could find. He became so good at it, he actually tricked the Devil up into a tree, then carved a cross on the trunk, trapping him in the branches. Jack then made a deal with the Devil: "I will let you go if you swear not to take my soul." The Devil agreed, and Jack set him free.

Years later, after a continued life of scamming and swindling, Jack died, choking on a turnip he was eating. Upon approaching Heaven, he was denied access due to his scheming ways, and was sent to Hell. However, the Devil kept his promise, and did not take Jack's soul. Barred from Heaven as well as Hell, Jack cried out to the Devil: "What am I supposed to do now? I cannot find my way through the dark emptiness of Purgatory!" In response, the Devil tossed him a burning ember from Hell's eternal fires, in order to light his way. Jack placed the ember into the turnip that caused his death, as a sort of makeshift lamp. And to this day, Jack of the Lantern roams forever, searching for a way home.

    ---------------------

When Irish immigrants came to America, pumpkins were much more plentiful and available than turnips, and the story changed as a result. Hence the origin of the Jack-O-Lantern.

    A few more seasonal tidbits:

Gravestones were originally placed on graves to weigh down ghosts, in an attempt to keep them from wandering the land.

The number 13 is considered unlucky because a witches' coven numbered thirteen: twelve witches and a grand master.

Crows and ravens were alleged to be evil spirits, so farmers placed figures called "scare-crows" to guard their fields from curses.

Halloween, or All Hallow's Eve, is supposed to mark the transition from the reign of the benign God of Summer to the evil God of Winter. After six months of imprisonment, the evil God and his spirits were most eager to be set free, and were especially active upon their release. People dressed in animal skins or costumes in an attempt to appear like the evil spirits, in hopes the spirits would ignore them.

The newly freed evil spirits would play tricks on unsuspecting homes, unless fruit or sweets were left out for them, as a bribe to leave the homes alone. Hence the origin of "trick-or-treating."
