Thread: Which do you think will sell better this holiday season; Gamecube or Xbox?

  1. One does not have to be in the industry to hear stuff.

An ex-friend of mine decided to go with MCI for residential phone service to his apartment. Hooking him up took something like a month, changing the line over to another apartment in the same complex a year later took two months.

If I can, I'm going to go with a cellphone as my main personal line when I get my own place.

  2. All cellular is the way to go if you live alone or at least don't have a family. Less hassles for long distance and is usually cheaper when compared to SBC. BB handles the rest - though Phono is offering IP Telephony =/ Makes no matter really... and thier service sucks Talk about lazy people there I don't think you live in our service area though... too bad... no free pay per view for you then.

Oh yeah - new website too www.phonoscope.com - it's still just as useless, but at least it doesn't look like it was designed in the 1980's anymore.

I thought you were saying you weren't a wishhick because you didn't have high speed internet :/ I have RR too but I work for Phonoscope which has 'teh best' intarnet in town. Well... it's fast at least - Static IP's too.

EDIT - MyLinuxISP is good though I hear.
    Phonoscope... You guys rock.

In mid-2000 I worked at a joint in Greenway named Physix, later called Data Critical, later called ClosedHoustonBranch, Inc. Phonoscope was providing us with a 10mbit Cat5 line hooked up to a router somewhere in the building, which was linked to an optical line or something nearby. No fancy stuff, no DSL modems or anything -- just a Cat5 line dropped from the ceiling. I thought that was cool.

Of course, we were overpaying because we were caught in a rate-locked contract, and our router was a piece of crap that had to have a full-duplex to half-duplex switch put on it... but that was still cool.

Ah, nope. I'm in Spring, aka Hell. We have the previously mentioned AOHellTimeTurner -- which is still evil, but a lesser evil than SBC.

IP Telephony... heh. Maybe that will be valid in 10 years... Right now though, I don't trust it, not even for business use (aka "wow-the-executives-by-trotting-out-the-toys time").

    2) it has 'party games'
Halo, TS2, and sports games sell better than all of the GC's party lineup put together.

    3) regardless of the upcoming lineup, it already has games that pander to 1 and 2
And how well are they selling?

    4) the holiday lineup is good, and features more 'friendly' titles than XBox. Sure, Unreal and SC may be nice, but Metroid and Mario are more recognizable.
Explain how "friendly" titles sell better than so-called "unfriendly" ones. And the name Metroid is only recognizable to people over the age of 16, a demographic far more interested in GTA:VC and other more grown-up fare.

    5) It's cheap, even in bundle form.
GC has been at least $50 cheaper from the start, and that hasn't helped it any.

    Good enough.

The young brains full of mush are the GC's main market? That's news to me...

Reference the screaming kiddie above. Also note that parents of said screaming kiddies usually wait til Christmas or birthdays for anything that costs more than a Tonka truck.

Currently most of all we do is business related, so on the consumer level it's expensive. This is why we only provide residential access to apts. Thanks for the complement BTW The company is so small everyone is in someway a good part of everything that we do. To be even more completely OT - right now I am racing against another gent to make a new customer Dbase and web sheet for online billing and transactions, ppv ordering and account services and scheduleing. Our website does little but inform, this will help actually make us somewhat MODERN for once.

It's not a bad site. This is a bad site. ^_^ EDIT: Warning, the hoser who runs that ISP put a popup ad on it.. how irritating, I'm glad we don't use them anymore...

Please tell me you're not using Access for the backend.... What are you using for the code? PHP?

But that's the thing, Gamecube ISN'T cool to the kiddies. It's cool to the parents, for sure, but parents aren't going to want to make their kid the laughing stalk of his friends. What's cool to kiddies are the games like GTA, games that emphasize what their parents think is 'wrong', games that make them feel older than they are, and let them do things that can't do in real life, like shooting people and running them over. Sad as it may be, that's what kids are like, and Xbox certainly packs more of this than GC, that's for sure.

Well if the bombing of Conker and Eternal Darkness and weak sales of RE are any indication...
Buy Yakuza and Oblivion. Help yourself, help TNL.

  9. Xbox, by far.
    matthewgood fan
    lupin III fan

  10. How can any of you think that the Metroid name means anything to kids these days? It's been 7 years since Super Metroid, and I don't think that game appealed to the really young kids who had a SNES then.
