Thread: Which do you think will sell better this holiday season; Gamecube or Xbox?

Me renting Super Metroid all those years ago: Awesome, some robot guy and nice graphics....he walks kinda slow, oh well...hmmm, I can only shoot these tiny things crawling around....where the hell am I?...screw this *puts in Alien Wars*
Metroid (along with Zelda) was one of those games I just didn't "get" back then

PS: The ONLY franchise a parent will recognize on GC is Mario. SF, AC and Metroid, and definitely RE, will not attract parents in any way.
"LOL"ing at my opinion. Very constructive.

Since you did such a poor job in attempting to make me like a moron, I'll save my time and not return the favor.

PS: I never said the parents would be buying RE. I said the older audience would. Do yourself a favor and learn how to read properly.
Then do us all a favor by not having any children.

Worldwide, Gamecube. In the US, Xbox.

Please tell me you're not using Access for the backend.... What are you using for the code? PHP?
OMG Hhaha. Awful Link of the Day material.

I actually am using Access - we have an all MS policy here with the excpetion of my SpaceCycles servers - all Linux

Well, not really all MS - but our Data/Video guys love 'em so I am beholden to them and Access is easy :/

I could do PHP... but I don't know it well

Once again - Xbox for the holiday season.

  5. I don't think either system is going to sell that well this holiday season. But I think I'd have to give the edge to Xbox, except in Japan of course.

Why? Because GCN has very little to offer in the soiftware department. Xbox is not that much better, but there is a little bit more for most potential owners. Plus, the Sega bundle should move a few extra units...

  6. This "Most gamers are adults now" stuff is bullshit, yes there's a lot more adult gamers than their used to be but there's still a gigantic chunk of the market that's kids. It's not that gaming is shifting, it's that more people are getting into gaming. Kids have always been into it, the market's growing now because adults are getting into it to. There's no less kids gaming now than ever.

Yeah, it's pretty bad. That guy still runs the ISP as a hobby too. He can only be reached at night -- no clue what he really does for a living.

Ew. Well, MySQL can be run rather well on Windows boxen. PHP will give you better control of the database and user pages, plus it ties into IIS pretty seamlessly. PHP and MySQL also won't crash as often as Access will...

  8. One question for everyone saying that the Xbox bundle will help move more Xboxes than GameCubes: How will Sega's virtually unknown games help move more systems than a Mario title?

I think everyone is jumping the gun a little. Who cares who sells more? The fact is that they are both excellent systems that deserve to have excellent sales. The only winners and losers are the gamers. If either company decides to pull out it is a loss only to us because less competition leads to stagnantation within the industry.

I will admit that my fondest memories belong to Nintendo, but I am a gamer and I like to have good games. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Nintendo's games, but to deny myself of the other quality titles that are on all the systems is just foolish.

I know that everyone wants "their" system to win. The answer is try to own all the systems. I know that for some this is next to impossible, but remember that you don't need to buy them all right away. Get the one system that has the most games you want for it. Then when prices drop, pick up the other system that has the variety of games that you like. Then after another pricedrop, pick up the last console. Enjoy the best titles on all the systems, instead of the best and above average games on only one system.

I think this holiday season Nintendo will catch up and then overtake the xbox in NA. They have the franchise names lined up, and MS doesn't. As for Japan, well, Biohazard 0 and Zelda will both sell twice as many copies are there are xbox owners.
While I agree that parents will be buying GC for their kids, I think the 18 plus crowd is all about either Xbox or Playstation 2 by in large. What type of games do most casual adult gamers play? Mature themed games and sports games. PS2 and Xbox just have the upper hand all around. Its also all about image to the casual gamers (to an extent) and Nintendo still hasn't found a way to truly shed its "kiddy" image, even though they continue to green-light more mature games.
