I've never played Sonic Adventure 2, so I can't really compare it much to Sonic Adventure. But anyway, I really enjoyed Sonic Adventure. It's right up there as one of my favourite games of all time.
I agree, and I find SA2 vastly superior because of its absence.Originally posted by DacaZ
I didn't like the Adventure element at all.
Agreed. Other than Sonic and Tails, everything in SA totally sucked. The shooting is SA2 is fun and the exploration is much better. The only valid complaint is that the non-Sonic levels are no longer optional.Originally posted by Frogacuda
Disagreed. They were by far the best parts of the game, but the rest was still quite good, and better than all the non-sonic crap in the first game.

Truer words never spoken. Every little detail from jumping over the bridge to guessing the perfect distance to hit the ending capsule from... It was near perfect. But this pales in comparison to the #1 reason why everyone flocked in droves to the SA Home Page: The World Rankings. A level would be chosen, and it was up to you get the lowest time, or catch the biggest fish, whatever. The first event was a time trial on Emerald Coast . Sega announced the event like a month in advance, which gave us plenty of time to prefect our runs. People in the chat room and message boards would share tips and secrets as to how to shave that extra second (Scale up the mountain, jump over the loop, etc), there were even Chao Race rankings. It was an exciting time to own a Dreamcast.
As for Emerald Coast rankings today... Let's make use of the high score forum, no? We could even have a City Escape ranking in the same thread.
Done. http://www.the-nextlevel.com/board/s...threadid=11238
As for SA2, I'm with Mechdeus. The Sonic and Shadow levels in SA2 are enough to make it barely beat out SA.
Well, I for one loved both Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. Comparing both games I'd have to say that 1 is a significantly better game though, because it was more consistent. There was nothing to dislike about SA1 for me. It blew me away when I first got it (my first DC game). I know some people found the "Adventure" part of the game tedious, but it didn't bother me at all. I could give or take it. I enjoyed playing as all of the characters. Some of them were a lot better than others, but they were all at least semi-enjoyable.
SA2 on the other hand is a bit of a flawed masterpiece. The enjoyable parts are extremely enjoyable... but the tedious and annoying parts of the game were really frustrating. Yes, I mean the Knuckles/Rouge stages. Those things drove me crazy... I also found the camera in SA2 to be 10x worse than in SA1. It took a huge adjustment to even have fun with SA2 because of it. I actually hated SA2 when I first started playing it and I had to force myself to play it... but once I finally got used to it and made some progress I really grew to love it.
I still prefer SA1 though. That's a true classic.![]()
Both go hand in hand.Originally posted by SonofdonCD
It has better graphics, a better framerate
Rouge's level in space was a pain in the ass to navigate through, and it was easy as hell to miss the Air Bracelet for Knuckles in Aquatic Mine.better overall level design (especially Sonic/Shadow levels)
MUCH better story

My sentiments exactly, though I never ended up loving it.I also found the camera in SA2 to be 10x worse than in SA1. It took a huge adjustment to even have fun with SA2 because of it. I actually hated SA2 when I first started playing it and I had to force myself to play it...

Death never looked so good.
I completed the hero side but left the dark side story hanging. Rouge in space was just too lame.
A bat...MUCH better story
With big knockers...
Is a spy...

Play Guitar Hero //
Not necessarily. You can have a game that has better graphics yet a worse framerate. Perfect Dark has better Graphics than Goldeneye, yet definitely has a worse framerate 90% of the time. I know that's not the best example, but that will do.Originally posted by Freeter

I said Better overall level design. Sure not every level is better by comparison, but overall they are.Originally posted by Freeter

If that bothers you, why do you bother playing Sonic Games at all? Or oh so many other games and other forms of media? (And everyone pans me for the "WTF" storylines and continuity problems Mario games haveOriginally posted by Sl1p

Forget Rouge the Bat. She's barely in the main storyline anyway. The main story arc is MUCH better, much more epic in scope, and much more interesting. It actually kept my interest thoughout, unlike feeling tacked on like SA1 storyline did.
Just the addition of Shadow makes this story better. Sonic finally has a rival that can hang with him in every way. SA1 storyline is too cutesy for my tastes, with the chao and all.
Shadow gave Sonic a fresh antagonist, which made me love the character. I also HATE the Eggman name, yes it fits his appearance, but how the fuck can you fear someone named EGGMAN? That being said, Sonic and Shadow's levels ruled all in SA 2 and definitely made the game, despite all of its' flaws, better than SA.
