not sure if i can post a score since i am using shikigami no shiro evolution on Xbox and maybe the scores differ from the ps2 version
anyways i have been struggling with a 3rd party Xbox stick so bought a Joybox converter - which for some reason doesn't register my ascii ps2 stick - so its using a dual shock for me
no arcade mode mate - just evo or normal (normal is exactly like the first SnS whilst Evo has different enemy patterns)
ps Pacrappa how you getting 120-130 million by the end of the first level (1-3)? i can get 75 million and thats with getting most of the coins and x5 -- i can normally finish 1-1 from anywhere between 35 and 45 million (damn butterfly doesn't give up many points since i get to it with about 15-20 seconds left on the clock and so need to take it out quick time)
Huzzah! I was hoping you'd join us camps! I'd actually been intending to send you a PM over TFP way and formally invite you but I was too busy being antisocial and playing Shikigami
The main thing is to be REALLY aggressive on the buzzing. If you can just stay red throughout the level you'd lead the pack. Unfortunately that's impossible. I do my damnedest to buzz every single blue ballerina and teddy bear in 1-1 and then do my best to make sure I get x8's on every portion of the mad butterfly baby. In 1-2 be sure to get a x8 when you bust the thing's sheild and then bumrush it for another when it actually dies. You can get 20 mil out of 1-2 alone that way.
Peep it: Technosphile got 81 million by the end of 1-1 the other day! BOYAKASHAR!
Then in 1-3 if you hurt her slowly she'll do two attacks with pink ballerinas. The second one will come forth if she has an orange aura (but not red!) and has like 16 ballerinas and the boss shoots all those little green thingies. This is absolutely COIN CITY. To be honest I usually avoid the second ballerina attack if I've gone into 1-3 with over 100 mil. Kuga's secondary weapon just won't kill the ballerinas and the green things and they(green things) move like 5 times as fast as Kuga so it's very very dangerous. Of course the extend is right around the corner so sometimes it's worth it to take a hit and leave 1-3 just a hair away from the extend.
I hope that helps. The main thing for me is simply play time. I figured out all my strategies on my own except for a couple I nicked from Tech's repertoire. At this point it might be nice to watch some mpeg footage of a true Japanese badass but I have fun strategizing against this thing. It must be about the best shooter I've ever played simply because I can do it my way. Try playing Ikaruga and not shooting things in threes and see where your score ends up. Shikigami's just so open ended, you play your way and I play my way and we all score big!
After a week long break I've been playing again daily. I'm having huge trouble and my best so far after about five days is 290some million. Good but not great. I'm definitely not too comfortable being #1 by only 3 million. I need to generate some space there before I'll feel like I've done something that cigs didn't do.
I have been alternating between 2 characters upto now - Yuhki Sayo is my fav character for just breezing through, her secondary attack gets quite funky when you get Level Max and since it absorbs the normal bullets it can be a good form of defense - Kuga Kohtaro is the character i find its easy to 'rub the bullets' with, chasing those pink bullets about whilst letting his ghost take out the enemies resulted in some serious points from 1-1 (though nothing in Technosphile's range at the mo ). nice tip for 1-2 - for some reason the maximum i have scored on there is about 5 mill
i have been searching the web like crazy looking for some good japanese vids but nothing is turning up - which is a pisser when you consider all the ikaruga vids that appeared - also i would have expected a multitude of vids to appear since you can save your entire replay to the xbox hdd and with evo-x you can ftp any saves on your xbox over to your pc
Like you said SnS is a brilliant shmup - i am having more fun just playing for score than i did throughout Ikaruga -- the fact that i keep replaying the first few levels on score attack mode (practise) is proof of that alone. so many different strategies with each character -- you can go all out attack, 'rub bullets' mode, pure defense - whatever your heart desires at the time --- easily much more versatile than many other shmups
Playing it with the xbox d-pad is a pain - now using a dual shock via Joybox (which doesn't support arcade sticks for some reason) until my magicbox arrives from lik-sang -- then its dc stick all the way
81 million on 1-1...nice. As for the chick with the ballerinas, you can string her along long enough to get two groups of four ballerinas and then the group with 16 or whatever. Just be careful not to let her power get in the red or no more ballerinas.
camps, as you'll see I've added a new chart specifically for Evo Mode. Is the last score you posted (directly above this post) Normal or Evo? Let me know and I'll get it up there.
Had some amazing runs on Sunday morning which ended in complete failure...my new strategy against the 3-2 boss is yielding about 30 million if done properly. Cigs and Pa, what do you gents pull against him?
