Thread: Bloody Wolf

    Bloody Wolf

The arcade scene in the late '80's had no shortage of war-themed games. So many good (and bad) games got lost in the glut.

Although I haven't played the arcade version of Data East's Bloody Wolf, I enjoyed playing it on the TurboGrafx. It won't win many originality awards but it's a quality sidescrolling action game. I liked how you could ride the motorcycles.

Anyone a fan? Anyone know how faithful the TG16 port was?

  2. I remember 10 minutes after putting it in saying "This is better than Contra". After beating it reality sunk in, but I still loved it.

I never layed a quarter in the cab either.

  3. It was a great game, even on the TG 16. The only problem that I had with the conversion was the tremendous slow down in some parts that made the game that much more difficult to defeat. Very worthy, though.

  4. Haohmaru?....did you use to work on GameGo??

  5. I can't remember ever seeing this one in the arcades, but I must have seriously come close to wearing that hucard out. This and Splatterhouse were probably the most responsible for generating interest in the TG16 for me early on. I think my favorite mission was the one where you had to rescue multiple hostages from different cabins in an enemy camp, mostly because it was a departure from the standard "press onward to the end of the stage" gameplay. I also liked how the character you chose initially was captured midway through the game nad you had to use the other guy to save HIS ass. (heard they pulled that idea out again for Metal Slug3- any confirmation on that while I patiently await a port?)

And the motorcycles did kick ass- especially since you could jump with them and do the platforming segments to take them along to the next area.

  6. I only played the T-16 version. Its actually the first game I got for my Turbografx (aside from Keith Courage). I remember playing it over and over again to the point where I would just try to beat the game only using my knife.

  7. Ok, just found out that the arcade version was called Battle Rangers.

    BTW, long live Data East.

  8. I never really cared much for Bloody Wolf, but then, I did only play it long after its heyday. SNK's war-themed games of the time seem to me to play a bit better.

Hmm, now that I think of it, P.O.W. is very similar to Bloody Wolf, though compared to that one, Bloody Wolf seems to play a little better after all.

  9. Haohmaru?....did you use to work on GameGo??
Yes he did. 95% of the people here are from the GG forum.

I've played BW ,I like it better than Ikari Warriors but it's not as good as Pocky and Rocky or Mercs.

  10. Bloody Wolf was cool! Dang, now I've got another HuCard to track down...
