Thread: NHL

  1. The Sens pregame radio show received reports that Heatley was not under the influence of alcohol. Driving that fast in a residential area is stupid. Hopefully Dan Snyder recovers and is able to play hockey again. This accident is going to haunt Heatley for the rest of his life and is a lesson to anybody stupid enough to do what Heatley did. Another reason for stricter driver licence testing.

  2. Exactly. That's the reason why I hope he does not get away with it just because he's rich and famous. Hopefully it will set an example to other people out there and they will think twice about driving recklessly if not for their own safety and the safety of other innocent people, then for not wanting to go to jail.

Anyway... on a hockey note, the Devils-Rangers game is being shown on the NHL Network tomorrow night so I am excited to get my first taste of preseason action. I am hoping to see some youngsters for the first time in a Devil uniform - especially Pihlman, Pikkarainen, Suglobov, and Foster. I also hope Berglund continues to impress. He should make the team this year (the others are further off). Man, the Devils are loaded with young talent.

List of unprotected players for the waiver draft. No real surprises except for maybe Claude Lemieux. Why isn't Breeze By in this list? Bah!

  4. The Stars were trying to dump Lemieux all summer. I think he was already placed on waivers, actually. Lemieux will always be a legend in New Jersey. I was really annoyed that we didn't resign him for 2001, and I think he would have been the difference that year... but at this stage he's probably had it and we proved we could win without him (finally).

As for Breakwood, he's been playing decent. He is overpaid but I don't think he is as bad as some people thing, he just makes too many high profile gaffes. His biggest problem is that he's been a #1 defenceman when he should really be a #3 or #4 (2nd pair). I think that if he was in a team like the Devils where he would have been on the third pair he'd do quite well. He'd still be overpaid though.

Anyway, not much out there. Maybe a few decent 6th defencemen. Personally, I hope the Devils don't lose Bicek or Balmochnykh. I'd rather dump Gionta than either of those guys. Balmo was a total bust for Anaheim but he's come back to NA and had a strong camp.

    • Interesting moves today from the waiver draft. The Habs picked up a couple of 4th liners. I have mixed feelings. I'd rather see some youngsters make the lineup, but if Langdon replaces Dwyer as the goon it will be a major improvement in that department at the very least.

    • I got to watch the Devils v- Rangers game the other night on the NHL Network. The Devils looked pretty good. I was thrilled that Berglund played so well. He is one of my favourite players and he was lousy last year, but he is back to his old fiesty self. He got a goal and was very involved. Larionov showed he still has skills, but he looked kinda slow out there. The rookie defeceman Paul Martin looked pretty bad and should not make the team. He is a good prospect and needs time in the minors. I'd rather see Albelin, Giroux, and Brown on the team.

    • * The Flames just unveiled their new RED home jersey. Wow, what a massive improvement over the awful flaming horsehead! The "Flaming C" looks a bit odd in black, that will take some getting used to (the old red ones had a white C). They look a bit Devilesque with the black pants and helmet. I would have chosen red for them... but overall they look pretty sharp.

  6. i like that new jersey and the new one for the coyotes as well, but that anaheim one can just burn in hell.....

  7. Sonic

Good job by Gainey to get Mr. Langdon. They needed more toughness in the worst way. Langdon fills that part up nicely. They still need a little size though to stay alive in the more violent Eastern Conference.

That new Calgary Flames home jersey looks great. I like the black, flaming C. Now if they would only take that ridiculous horse head thingy off the shoulder area it would be even better.

Anaheim should be fined terribly for their horrible jerseys. I wouldn't be surprised if people have committed suicide over how ghastly they are.

Finally, Dyne thank goodness you started posting in this thread. Another 2 or 3 pages more of just me and SGGG talking hockey would of been very peculiar looking.

Well... few people care much about that team in the first place, so I don't think they'll need a suicide watch in SoCal.

Their regular unis are pretty damn ugly to begin with. Not as bad as the third... but still bad enough that Duck fans are probably used to looking bad.

Here is another view of the Flames:

Indeed... with the season starting up next week maybe it'll pick up.

  9. Game Boy Advance White. Hab. Hoops.

Radio-Canada is stupid. The Habs "white" heritage sweaters are not beige after all.

    Here are the real ones.

Very nice. I want a white one. ^_^

  10. I'm torn between them. The red is snazzy, but the white goes with everything.
